In this thread it seems like he also had to buy the correct size c-clips from Nissan in addition to having the axle stub grooves machined.
Anyone have a part # for the correct C clips needed?

just to clarify this, so people don't start on a wild goose chase, all the C Clips for all 350Z's, base models/VLSD and 370Z's are all the same. There are no alternate sizes offered by Nissan.

There are 2 solutions to the OSG differential....or any other differential made to replace the factory VLSD (for example, Cusco). Either machine your existing output shaft accordingly, or replace it with the correct one from the factory. Cost (if you don't own your own machine shop) is roughly the same in the end

^ that was really annoying trying to figure out if I needed new C clips or not, I guess you just have smash the stub axles into the OSG unit lol

Very informational thread...I'm
thinking of going OSG however still taking a gander at Quaife and Nismo. Couple of questions:

-straight line acceleration/drag racing do the CLSDs perform the same and any different to an ATB type/helical LSD-Quaife?

-durability wise is there a torque ceiling for differentials, lets say if a car was making close to or more than 700lbsof torque.

I know high powered road racing cars use LSDs but haven't dug into what kind that are using.

How long after a Cusco RS LSD is installed should you wait to get your car dyno tuned.

My car is NA and has no power or torque.

Thanks!

I thought you bought your diff used?

I waited 500 miles, changed the fluid then considered it "broken in"

I spoke to Adam at Z1 about this when I bought mine; he said there is no break in period.

Me personally, I went a a large lot did a buncha figure8's and replaced the fluid.

Been beating the **** out of it ever since.

So, the Dealership who is installing my Spec Z - Wavetrac diff can't get the stub axles to slide in far enough...sounds familiar. Wavetrac Tech Support sez "it should fit...just push harder"

basically just can't get the C-clips in....

More to follow...

Great thread!!

So I got an A/T Z (pls dont laugh) and swapped the pumpkin with an MT unit. Obviously ill be needing an LSD designed for MT. My main question is, do I need any other things changed if I bought an aftermarket LSD? Like, say OS Giken?

TIA

Edit: This thread just made me buy an OS Giken LSD lol.

Just got my OS Giken installed. To answer my previous question, we used all the hardware for the M/T.

Bought Redline oil, 75w90NS. When the mechanic drove it out of the shop towards the parking, he called me up and said the LSD made broken sound noise. (I havent seen the car yet after the install). Am I using the correct oil? Will the clutch packs get damaged if I don't use the friction modifier? I'm a bit worried. lol. Need your advise guys

75w90 is def the wrong oil, you need an oil like the redline 80w140 or maybe try the shockproof oil from them.

OS Giken oil is 80w250

Shockproof is for dog ring transmissions or transmissions that see shock (shift impact) loads. It is not for rear diffs, although it can be used there. 80W-140 of Motul or Redline with 4oz. of friction modifier should work well.

If it is making a "broken" sound and it was just built...it probably is broken

Thanks Terrasmak and Beta.

@Laze, man I hope you're joking. lol

I just picked up the Z and drove it home. It does make chattering / clunking noise on slow-medium turns. I know clutch type LSDs do this but it's just that people on here have been saying how quiet OS Giken is.

I'm getting looks from people now with big question marks in their faces. Do I really need to break-in the unit?

To be on the safe side, I'm placing an order right now for 2 bottles of OS Giken LSD oil and a couple of Redline friction modifiers (just to see if the noise disappears for the sake of trying) from ConceptZ.
