From what i understood is that they didnt use any sealants. The plugs where tight enough to where there was no leaks.

As Albe said, no need for a sealer. The $1 plug comes with a foam or rubber washer, I can't remember any more, that will snug up fine and be water tight once you tighten it down. It is also ideal to wash the Z right after you install the plug (with the plastic still off) so you can check for leaks.

I installed this back in early 2007 and it's been fine ever since. I never did get around to removing the rubber spray plug though. I don't notice it any more.

One of my first mods!

 

I did this yesterday, some tips I can share from my experience:

-The easiest way to remove the plastic piece on the wiper arm covering the 12mm nut is by pressing downward at the top of this piece (top meaning the point closest to the front of the car).

-I used the method of rotating the wiper blade to break it loose and remove it. It's held on with some kind of epoxy or silicon or something, all twisting it does is break it free from the seal.

-For the interior trim, I started furthest from the hatch and used the handle of an ice scraper like a crowbar. This part is just as simple as pulling hard directly perpendicular away from the surface of the hatch. The clips are round and come to a point and spear head into circular holes in the hatch. There's no technique involved with pulling them out (meaning no press the side then down or anything like that), just give them hell. I didn't break any of the clips and I wasn't exactly too careful.

I used the Lowes faucet stopper, for paint I went to autozone and bought a can of spray paint in the closest color I could find. My Z is san marino blue, so trying to find a good match was a pain in the ***. The dark blue I bought is a little bit lighter but the spray paint actually applied really nicely. I was thinking about calling up a dealership and seeing if they have SMB touch up paint I can use or buy to fix the color.

 

Did my rear wiper delete. Posted in the exterior sub forum but thought I'd post here as well. When I was thinking of doing this mod awhile back one of the things that stalled me was trying to decide and research which plug/stopper and sizes etc was the best to choose. Hopefully this helps the next person! Went with a flat metal cap screw from Ace Hardware, rather than the faucet stoppers or nylon plugs found at Lowe's and Home Depot. Recommended by another member for being a bit more flat and flush.

"Flat Metal Cap Screw" from Ace. Located in the screws section above the nylon plugs. Picked up a 1" and 7/8" and painted them with gloss black and a few coats of clear.




Like someone else earlier in this thread, I went with the 1" and filed the wiper arm hole slightly so that it would fit. Very little filing needed, and is more snug than a loose fitting 7/8"




The 7/8" plug I used for the spray nozzle hole on the rear windshield. No modification needed, pops in and fits perfectly.

Question about wiper delete - what happens if you accidentally turn on the rear wiper and it isn't there? Does the motor just spin freely or what?

 

Nothing happens because you take the motor assembly out too.

I'm shaving the hole entirely instead of just putting a plug in it.

I ended up buying a plug from tunerzstore.com. It includes a low profile plug, as well as a foam gasket and plastic nut to screw it down from underneath. The part arrives black. I bought a spray can of Duplicolor K23 Brilliant Silver and clear topcoat from O'Reilly. Total project time including painting was about an hour - at least half of that was fumbling around trying to pull the wiper off. Out of frustration i finally gave it a huge yank and it popped right off. I also broken one of the orange panel fasterns so I'll see if my Nissan dealership can give me one, otherwise I won't worry about it since there seem to be enough of them already to secure it well. I will post a pic on Saturday after I wash the car for autocross

 

Did the wiper delete, using the plug from tunerzstore.com. Plug cost $20 and arrived within a couple days. Very high quality product. Bought some Duplicolor K23 (Exact Nissan match) and clearcoat from O'Reilly and painted it. Total installation time was less than 1 hour including paint. Oh, and also took it to autocross and placed 5th in Novice!

 

How were you able to just pop the plug into the squirter hole and it just fit perfectly? I bought the exact same plugs and there is a good couple millimeters worth of gap. The metal part of the hatch that holds the squirter in doesn't let it sit flush with the window...
