The stock rims are not threaded to accept the stock valve. They mount through a hole in the rim and have rubber grommets on either end. The valve stem itself is thread and a nut is used to fasten it to the rim. The sensor it attached to the back of the valve stem.

I hear what you saying, with regards to machining out a new hole in the aftermarket rim. The only problem this would pose is that many people have details rims with complicated rivets and what not. For instance, I have 3 piece HRE's. The valve stem outlet is designed to look like one of the removable rivets. Drilling this out would compromise the seal between the face and barrel of the rim plus it would deform the face of the rim, making it unattractive.

Do you realize you can just screw all the units into one long band using the existing screws. No need to hack apart the band and make those arrows to insert into the cut portion.

This is true. What I was considering was the amount of balance, the added weight of the fastener portion of the band would throw the wheel's balance off, making it necessary to add more wheel weights to the barrel of the rim.

Most air conditioning duct band go up to 24" dia.
no mods required

They are near the plywood. I found them at the endcap of an aisle.

I guess i was luck to have my sensors mount up to the wheels as if they were factory... sweet deal!
