Squeaking with Bobcat pads!!
I'm getting alot of squeaking when I brake at slow speeds with the new pads. Brake dust is considerably low though (sweet). Anyways, is this normal? Do you guys have alot of sqeaking too? It's REALLY loud. thanks
yes squeaking is pretty normal pads like the carbotechs but it shouldn't be that loud or last that long. How did you break them in? Did you put anything on the shims to keep them from vibrating? I've used serveral sets of bobcats and they usually only make noise backing out of the driveway and only until the get a little heat in them.
^ I didn't put them in myself, but nothing was put in the shims if I remember correctly (I could be wrong). Perhaps, adding some permatech in between the shims and plate will resolve the issue? I did the recommended bedding as Carbotech suggested. The rotors were not turned. Is this necessary? Does this have to be done every time you replace pads? thanks
no you don't need to turn the rotors unless thats what is making them squeak. You could try putting some silicon compound between the pad and shim.
Usually there are only a few reasons brakes make really loud noises.
Heat cracked or worn "un-true" rotors
Rough finish on resurfaced rotors
Loose fitting brake pads in the brake calipers
Lack of silicone compound on back of brake pad
Missing springs or anti-rattle clips that should be on the caliper or pad
Improper tightening sequence of lug nuts or caliper hardware
Contamination on the brake pad i.e. brake fluid
I'd try the silicon compound first because it is the easiest. I've got to say though you're gonna get a little noise even when its perfect, with performance brakes like the carbotechs.
