Default JIC Coilover setup? What's your ride-height?

I finally installed my coil-overs and I "eyeballed" the ride height. From the ground to the fender-lip is 26" in front, 26.5" in the rear. What is everybody else running with the JICs and what firmness adjustment? I searched for install recommendations, but they all had to do with how to install, not how to setup/adjust once they were mounted. I could fiddle around with this for weeks, but I'd really prefer to duplicate somebody else's that's already dialed-in.

Many thanks,

Bruce

I had my FLT-A2s corner-weighted--the drop was only about 10-15mm lower than stock. Thing was though, for a proper corner weighting, the car "looked" like it was leaning to a side a little bit when there was no driver and little fuel in it. Oddly enough, it works the best that way on the track!

Thanks Rickdogg & VQ35DECivic. I know there are a bunch of JIC users out there. Anybody else care to contribute? I'm particularly interested in ride height and coilover stiffness settings. I've tried them set to "15" and that was waaaaaay firm!

Thanks.

This is from my last corner weight:

Left Front: 25 1/16"
Right Front: 25 1/16"
Left Rear: 25 7/8"
Right Rear: 26"

Hope that helps

25.75 front
26.50 rear
On 19's now, which in the rear is .2 larger in diameter iirc. I run mine on 3 front 5 rear on the street. When I put mine on 15 they feel floaty, ever since I did my crank pulley my handling changed a little. So I never run the fronts higher than 5 or they dont feel right.

Default JIC setup

Rick & Alberto,
Thanks again for the help. Now, if I can figure out a way to access the adjustment ***** on the rear coilovers without pulling them off the car, I'll be looking good.

Ride height I'm not too sure about. Those settings I had was on my G35C, before swapping that for the Z.

What I do recall was that after the corner-weighting, the LF and RF shocks had different spring preloads on them, but that was required for the corner weighting. Ride height, as you know on the JICs, are set separately from the preload.

Regarding shock setting, that seemed rather tricky. If 1 was full soft, and 16 was full hard, I found the first 4-5 soft settings completely useless. 7-9 was as good as it got on the street, and when I hit Streets of Willow, I set it to 13-14 in the front, and left the rear at about 8 or 9 IIRC. It was good enough to drop my lap times by over one solid second. Anyhow, I think the settings are the same as Alberto stated, since JIC counts 1 as hard and 16 as soft. Sorry, former Tokico Illumina user here.

Do a search on here. A while ago some guy posted pics of the rear of the Z with the hatch open and the panels off. Once you take the panels off you have to drill a small hole at the end of the Z's rear strut frame to be able to get your adjustment key in there. You could then put a small hole in the panel and make adjsutments. If you cant find the pics, let me know I may have them saved in an old email....

I'm putting my JIC FLT-A2 on the car right now....still woking on the rear cuze you have to modified the perches and drill wholes. Can you guys give me some tips? Also does the JIC makes sqeuaking noise? If i'm not tracking my car, jsut street and some fast off/on ramps...which setting is good for me? Thanks for your help.

JICs make all sorts of noises.

I run my JIC POS' at full soft, as from the dyno graphs I've seen (for another application), there was very little difference between settings. The things are valved like ****, so you might as well run them at full soft to keep the rubber to the road. At the track, I've run them at a higher setting, but they're so bouncy that I lose steering input and traction in the rear... hence the reason I run them full soft.

Set mine to 9 front and 8 rear. I find this works best on the street. I'll check the height and post pix tomorrow. With the roadster, you would have to drill a hole through the wheel well that would terminate under the tonneau. I was'nt cool with that, so I take out the rear strut to adjust it. Put electrical tape on the rear upper mounting studs to eliminate the play ( hole in JIC pillow mount is too big and will cause strut to move around, banging on the stud). I also used gasket maker to make custom gaskets for the pillow mounts. My JIC's make no noise at all. I'll most likely sell these and get the HKS Hypermax 2's. They have the rear adjuster on the bottom of the strut. I got the JIC's for less, but if I had known about the drilling, I would have bought the HKS.

Are those the LE37T's? 9.5F 10.5R 22 offset? Is so did you roll your fenders? Any rubbing up front with the lowered ride height?

I almost went with JIC. Now, after reading this, I am glad that I didn't.

John, what spring rates are you running? I'm surprised that the JICs are so bouncy. I would expect perhaps some bounce at lower dampening rates, but are you saying that the bounce is worse at HIGHER dampening rates? I would expect firmer response with less bounce as you ramp up the dampening rate. I'm curious, since I had some bounce with my D2 coilovers, but that now seems to be greatly reduced by using slightly lower spring rates and turning up the dampening to full hard.

I'm running the 10 and 12 kg/mm springs that came with the second set of JICs I had to order...

Is that 10 front, 12 rear or vice versa? Sounds very close to the 13f/11r that I am running now.

You had to order a second set of JICs? May I ask, what was wrong with the first set that required you to get another set? It certainly sounds like you are not happy with them.
