Details: My car is a daily driver. It's cold and wet occasionally here in Seattle. I started autox this year and will continue a couple times a month 'til end of the season. I'm hooked, so same thing next season. I've got a set of crossdrilled/slotted rotors waiting to go on my stock Brembos.
I'm trying to find a good pad to use. Pads I've looked into are a few from Carbotech, Porterfield R4-S, EBC Redstuff & Yellowstuff, Axxis Ultimate & Metal Master. Right now I'm mainly trying to decide between the Hawk HPS and the HP Plus. I know the HP+ will be better on the track, and I'm not concerned about the extra dust.
Will the HP+ be completely safe on the street when it's not completely warmed up?
Will it make too much noise? I can't stand squealing...
Anybody have experience with any of these pads on your daily driver/weekend racer?

The HP+ will squeal - and dust pretty good too. That means you are stopping.
They are still probably the best autox pad out there. Cold bite is very good you shouldn't be able to fade them.
Drilled rotors should be ok for autox but I'd watch them closely if you do a track day - they tend to crack at the holes far before they are worn out.
Good luck keeping up w/ the WRX/STi/EVO's in the rain!

im runnig axxis ultimates right now. they came with my stoptech stage 2 upgrade package.
they been through 1 track event and 2 autox's
they are still holding up pretty good, and at my last event i didnt have brake fade like i did with my nismos.
the axxis ultimateaz are also fairly cheap so you cant really go wrong with giving them a try. for my next pad ill probably go hawks just to see the difference
my pads are about half gone now and they are starting to make a noise but for the first half of the pad they were quiet. if that helps any

for me not until they get over aboput half worn then you get noise, but the reason they got half worn quickly for me was because of the track. and i think they are glazed aswell
so if your a 100% daily driver they will probably be ok
you can get both fronts and rear for like under $100

i autox too, and i dont think im too hard on them during that, compared to my track days
i would say give them a shot, ive had them through half a year of auto-x and no problems. i think the glazing was from that track day

You SHOULD NOT be using Axxis Ultimates for track days. Period. You will wind up surprised sooner or later, and hopefully it won't be a place with nowhere to go. Trust me on this, please.
Oh yes, HP+ will squeal and dust, but they'll be fine when cold on the street. If squeal is a concern of yours, then pass on them. HPS or some other similar pad will work fine for 95% of autocross courses. Don't use HP+ or HPS for track days either...

Yes, they would work for autocross, although depending on what tires you are using, you may want a pad with more initial bite. You'll have to feel for yourself to decide.

Decided to go w/the Axxis Ultimates since they were 2/3 the price of the HPS, and 1/2 the price of the HP+. I'll be installing them this Sat. along w/my Hotchkis sways and GT spec braces, so I guess we'll see...
