Default Spring install nightmare

So yeah I ended up installing 3 out of 4 springs. On my 4th spring everything was going fine...positioned the spring/shock back into place and bolted it back to the lower control arm. As I'm going to re-connect the sway bar end link rod, I see the bolt has been damaged. It was from when i tried to pound it out of the hole, the threads got damaged. I tried to use a tap/die set to rethread the bolt, but it's been damaged to badly.

Does anyone know if I can buy one of these at the dealership parts department?

you shouldn't have needed to bang it out..

but yeah, they're avail. special order though, 1-2 days. $15-20/piece.

ps- i dont see how not being able to reconnect the sway bar effected your spring install. it's ok to go ahead and do so.

I did the same damn thing, the car IS driveable without the connection, it will just handle a little loose. I drove mine without the sway end link connected for a few days waiting for the part to arrive. No biggie, don't kick yourself too hard.

The local Nissan dealer didn't have the part in stock, but the Infiniti dealership did (at a $5 premium over Nissan also). Picked it up this morning and about to swap it out.

Glad to know I'm not the only one that had this problem.

When removing the swaybar link you need to raise the lower control arm up with a jack to relieve the pressure off the bolt.

yup. and i hope the original poster jacked up the wheels to normal ride height before torqueing down all the suspension bolts.

unless he's referring to when you are connecting the controm arm to the strut, it's not necessary to jack up "the wheel" to torque all the suspension parts down. hell, with the wheel on it's almost impossible to get a wrench to do anything. the sway bar should always be adjusted under load.
