Default Track -able brake pads

Does anyone have a suggestion for a limited track use (HPDE/road course) brake pad. I have read many posts and manufacturer specs, but I have yet to find a pad capable of the limited track use AND a good street pad. The StopTech website has a pretty complete description, but until you go to a full race pad, I didn't see anything that would work. I don't do alot of events so I suppose changing pads in between would work. I currently have Hawk HPS (non-Brembo) and they are capable, but I am looking for a higher temp setup. Thanks for the help.

if you have brembo brakes...
endless ccx is a good viable option
if its more street than endless sss would be a good bet

I have Project MU in my Brembos, those are good. Endless would be good also.

Carbotech Panther Plus is a good cross-over pad... IMO, the aforementioned Japanese pads are overpriced for what you get.

However, it can't be said enough that a dual-purpose pad is not an ideal setup. Since pads don't take long to change, it's best to maintain a set of street pads and a set of track pads. Once you commit, there are a lot more formidable options for race pads.

Cool thread, I've been wondering the same exact thing.

Since the wheels will be off to change brake pads, do you guys think it's worth it to also get racing rims and tires as well. My Z is definitely my daily driver but I'm thinking about hitting the track about 4 or 5 times a year just for fun. I'm running all stock now, I'll probably add nismo suspention (shocks, sway bars, etc) within the next 6 months (I hear it's a good streetable suspention setup).

Or do you guys thing running stock is just as fun for only a few times a year.

Sure, running stock is fun. I drove on Falken Azenis last season. Ran through 3 sets of rears and 2 fronts...

I second John. Track pads are the way to go, even if you only do limited lapping. Street sport pads won't last a whole 20 minutes flat out anyways. Not fun.

Hey mikeg8r,
Thanks for the support. IMHO I think stock is also fun and WAY less expensive. The track events are not the big $, it's the consumables. If you go wheels/tires need to spend alot of $ to get lighter/stronger wheels and the tires are like pencil erasers. They stick like glue but wear VERY fast (without ABS you can ruin a big $ tire in a second)
OK, if track pads are the way to go, what are some good choices. Thanks

Tons of options. You can get a set of track pads up front and street sport pads rear.

I use Cobalt Frictions Spec VR front and GT Sports rear on my Brembos. They lasted 11 track days and still have a good thinckness left, but are spiderwebed front the heat cycles. I'm getting new ones.

I also used Cobalt Friction pads on my Brembos and loved them. I have the GT Sports all around though. I couldn't be happier with them. They did squeal a little when cold though.

I used the Hawk HP+ on my non-brembo setup, no fade at all.

When it comes to full race pads, I've run the Cobalt VRs, Carbotech XP10s, XP11s, and the PFC01s. While the PFCs are the most expensive, they had the best modular feel and consistency out of all the pads I've tried.

john how long do the pfc-01's last? Is the brake dust corrosive?
If my raybestos race pads ever die, I might want to try something a little different with less mu than the ray's. I know the pfc-97's have a highly corrosive dust that eats right into your wheels and paint. The raybestos don't do that.

Anyone run this combo:
STOP TECH rotors with Axxis brake pads (non-brembo).

Is this fairly streetable? i.e. does it have good stopping power when cold?

If you run a StopTech big brake kit, there is the Brake Horsepower XPS pad. Not to be confused with the Hawk brand.

This pad is the only pad that we can suggest as a street and track pad. Here are some details.
