What are some good brand for aftermarket rotors for an 04 Enthusiast? Are the OEMs rotors better than the aftermarkets? As far as aftermarket, cross-drilled or non cross-drilled? I heard that cross-drilled rotors tend to crack easy...what about slotted? I've used slotted before, and liked it quite a bit, but I like the looks of cross-drilled and slotted together....but I don't want to have to replace the rotors every 10k miles because cross-drilled sux....so what's your advice? brand? where can I get them? i don't want to spend too much money, and what's your take on them rotors in the $150 range for all 4 on ebay?
I heard stock pads are best for aftermarket...is that true?

If your not lookin to spend crazy amount check out the Stoptech Stage 2 Upgrade. comes with all 4 rotors, SS brakelines, brake pads & brake fluid...price ranges around $625-650 for that kit

 

I'm just looking to replace my rotors and brake pads...don't wanna have to change out the components...if the OEMs are good enuf, I'd go with the OEM...but if the aftermarkets are better, I'd rather spend a little more and get better..

 

try the EBC Slotted and Dimpled rotors and the red stuff pads. They worked wonderful when I had the OEM brakes. And not to expensive either. try

i just ordered frozen rotors (would have went with stoptech slotted but illegal in SCCA BS) & hawk hp+ pads. i'll tell you how it works out

 

i bought the slott/dril rotor from ebay last year (rotora rotor) and use for about a year. No problem.

 

Just so you know, upgrading rotors will not make your car stop any faster, it just takes longer for them to overheat in a track racing situation.

 

good point. most people have the misconception that better rotors = better stopping distances.

the purpose of slots or curved vanes, etc is just for better gas evacuation that is built up when the pad comes into contact with the rotor.

 

Are they any bigger? My rotors look microscopic with my 19s.

 

if you tend to do alot of braking then it will make brakes better (consistency because of less heat causing fade)...
but it will not shorten the initial distance
but after say 20 hard brakes from 60-0
the stock pads and rotors set up is probably cooked thus stopping in longer and longer distance
while good pads and bigger slotted/drilled/dimpled rotor set up will still retain safe braking capacity

 

If rotors dont offer better brake performance. Does the brake pads and brake lines do any good?

 

The Z's stock brakes are about as good as it gets for stopping distance. The upgrades just make your brakes last longer in stress situations like track racing.

 

stock pads dust like crazy though
imo from my SS line install... not much firmer feel than stock... probably my rubber lines arent in that bad a shape to make much difference...

so....do cross drilled and/or slotted rotors increase your stopping distance because they don't have that big a surface area?

and as far as those cheap $150 for a full set ebay slotted rotors, do they work just as well as any aftermarket rotors if you do not intend to go on the track?

 

Ill let ya konw this week lol needed rotors fast and they had them cheaper then dealer cost so well see how the handle. honestly if they work ill be happy if not oh well ill change them out with OEM

 

No they don't change anything but heat distribution. As far as the ebay rotors go...brakes are something that I personally would not go cheap on. You kinda need those to work properly sometimes
