Question EBC Rotors & Greenstuff Pads

Does anyone have an EBC brake system on their Z? I bought the pads to eliminate brake dust and the normal chirping from worn pads. Then I was told that I also needed new rotors, so I ordered the EBC Rotors. Based on info gathered from this forum, I knew I should get either the Hawk or EBC pads. Any info would be appreciated.

I had Greenstuff pads on my Mustang Cobra and had problems with excessive transfer of pad material to the rotors causing pulsation. I have hawk HPS pads on the Z and they are great. Extremely low dust and excellent breaking.

I have both the Greenstuff and EBC sport rotors for about the last 4k miles.
The combo works well as far as braking (better than stock but not for the track), dust (nearly none and it's not black), squealing (none), and I have not gotten them to smoke yet.

Pay attention to EBC break in instructions, they are not the same as Hawk.

I do have to warn you, the rotors sound like some sort of strange aircraft noise all the time. On the freeway, right up by the K rail, windows down, I hear this "shhhhh shhhhh" sound that changes with speed. There is a warning on the box about this sound, so it's normal. It's not so loud that I cant hear my exhaust or anything and with the windows rolled up I don't hear it.

ebc pads SUCK.

they make excellent caliper/rotor setups HORRIBLE.

I had greenstuffs on a wilwood setup a couple years ago and they were worse than stock, by FAR.

I'd say hawk HPS all the way.

Based on comments, It looks like I may have chosen the wrong brake pads for my Z. It's too late to cancel order on the EBC Sports Rotors and I already purchased the EBC GreenStuff Pads. Hopefully, I won't have too much of a problem, except the "shhhhh shhhhh" sound that HyperSprite experiences. Thanks for the comments

I run EBC Greenstuff pads and they are pretty good pads in my opinion. Very low dust.

I'm running the GreenStuff pads on stock rotors right now and love them. They are quiet, almost dust free and have good bite. Other peoples results can vary based on how well they bed them in.

BillyBlueZ, did you install them yet? If so, how do you like them?

If you ask 10 people if their brake pads squeak, one third will say yes regardless of what pads they are using. You could switch to another pad but it does not mean your not going to squeak.

When you installed you pads, did you have your rotors turned or use new rotors?
Do your rotors look nearly mirror shiny now?

If they are glazed over, bedding them in wont do much, I would have the rotors turned, and scuff the pads using a 180 grit sheet of sand paper on a flat surface till you get to fresh material. Then if you are using EBC Greenstuff, give them 300 miles of gentle braking and you should be good to go.

It's not quite a week since my EBC Greenstuff Pads and Sports Rotors have been installed (installation on Thursday, 04/27/06), so I'm still 'braking in my brakes'. So far, I am very pleased, especially the noticeable reduction in brake dust compared to the OEM brakes. There is no annoying screech, except for the pleasant swoosh as previously warned, and I am able to stop reasonably well during the brake-in period. (I am not slamming on the brakes yet to really test their stopping power.) I will continue to monitor their performance, and let you guys know if there are any problems that need to be mentioned.

I'm sorry to hear they are not working well for you. Their is more then likely a solution.

What condition were your rotors in? How many miles on the rotors? Did you follow the bed in procedure? Did you use any of the shims?
