Default R34 GTR Brakes for 350Z

I remember reading in SCC that the R34 GTR and 350Z Track share the same braking system.

I've been in contact with an exporter in Japan who has offered me the full system from an R34 Skyline GTR (front and back rotors, calipers, pads, brackets, etc.) for $2800. Essentially it is the Brembo system as found on the Track, judging by the pics he sent. This seems like a cost-effective alternative to StopTechs or AP Racing brakes all around. What do you guys think??

I read the same thing and in an effort to get some two piece rotors for my Track I contacted Brembo and got the following reply.

After speaking with the engineers, I have been told that the 350z and the skyline do not share the same components. Our engineers are also pretty confident that there will be the demand for these discs as well. Please feel free to post comments from our conversation on any forum that you would like. This should help generate more interst in the discs you seek causing our engineers to push forward on production even sooner.

That was eight months ago and after several e-mails, I made a phone call and was told that the Z used odd sizes for the rotor diameter and offset and no off the shelf componets would interchange. Maybe changing the whole system, calipers, rotors, brackets, etc would work, but I would be wary.
As a side note, after early enthusiasm for making the two piece rotors for the Track version, they've cooled and don't seem to be ready to offer them.

I don't see how it is a cost effective alternative. Stoptechs are better and can be had for $1799-$1999. I'd buy the Stoptechs and use the extra $1k to pay for a few high-speed driving events or new tires.

It was $2800 for the entire system, front and rear. A 4-wheel StopTech is $4000.

But you're right. I wasn't expecting $2800 for a used system, even if it is off of a Skyline. I think I may just opt for Project Mu pads, rotors and lines, which would set me back about $600-700.

Ah... ok. That makes sense.

You might keep an eye on the classifieds for someone selling the Z Brembos.... someone is sure to be planning an upgrade and will sell the stock setup.

The only difference between the GTR and 350Z Front is the offset. The R33/34 has a larger offset by 4.5mm. Therefore the inner braking surface will be closer to the strut.
The rotor diameter, thickness, and swept area are the same.

The rear rotors use the same hand brake diameter but the 350Z rotor is 322mm in diameter where the GTR is 300mm in diameter.
The rotor thickness and offset are the same.

Similar but not the same!

Default Here is a set up that might work

The new Maxima has SL has 12.6" rotors vs Brembo's 12.75. I'll bet they will match up with the Z's and give about as much stopping power for far less money.

The new 2004 Maxima SL has 12.6" rotors vs Brembo's 12.75 and the Z's 11.7. I'll bet they will match up with the Z's and give about as much stopping power for far less money.
