In researching the DIY approach I became curious if there is a niche market here. Talked about it with my buddy who is a mechanical engineer and if there is sufficient interest, we would front the cost for the mold to sell to the community as a vendor on the forum.

Problem: Stock and many aftermarket springs do not ride low enough in the the rear of the 350Z, G35 or FX vehicles creating a jacked-up look. Many owners prefer the level look.

Current Solution: The factory rear upper spring seat is very thick and can be cut down up to 1/2" to level the appearance and clean up the wheel gap.

Proposed Solution: Replace your factory seats with a newly molded piece that includes a spacer for a precision drop of 1/4" or 1/2" giving you some adjustability. The molded piece also saves you the time and trouble of cutting your stock seats allowing you to keep your factory ones for when you sell the car.

I would think a little more than the factory price for the spring mounts. I don't think 75 would be a bad price.

I don't know how big the market is for this... you can get new springs for $150 and used ones for $100.

 

It isn't about new springs, it's about dialing in the rear height of the one's you already have.


A $75 rear system that adjust's height would be a very good deal for someone that had a coilover setup that uses progressive rear springs that you really don't want to run. $150 for Eibach ESS springs and $75 for a system to adjust their height, problem solved for $225.

 

Thanks, Gsedan35, I wasn't aware coilovers retained the stock rear upper spring seat.

The reason I think so many people are turning to this, bugsbbunny, is that of all the aftermarket springs made for the Z, only two drop the rear more than the front, Tanabe GF210 and Hotchkis. All the others either drop the front more or claim an even drop all around. I have the Hotchkis and I still want the rear lowered a bit.

 

Not all of them do, but what your talking about would allow for solution's either way, that's the beauty I see. Not just to correct rear height on aftermarket drop springs.

If you do a setup that can adjust, how much range do you think you could do? I think I could accomplish what I want with a less then 1" range.

 

I was originally thinking just the one 1/4" spacer yielding two heights; 1/4" less than stock and 1/2" less than stock. This leaves approx. 1/2" of seat material between spring and body...anymore than that might be pushing it.
