Default Brakes Issue

Hello,

I was just wondering if I can get my brakes done at a local shop or should I go to the dealer? Any adv./disadv to not getting done at dealer?

Thanks.

I bought new rotors and pads and got them installed at a local shop for $175 (labor). All local dealers wanted to charge me between $395 to $500 to resurface my rotors and change the brake pads. Since resurfacing the rotors costs as much as replacing them, I would just buy new ones. I hope this helps.

Start a good relationship with a trustworthy local performance shop. Nissan stealerships just want your $$$ and will not be there for you when you need them.

the only abnormal tools you will need to complete the job is a C-Clamp kit which can be rented at your local autoparts store. Everything else is common household tools. (ft lb torque wrench, jack stands, jack, WD40, Rubber Mallet)

You have to get it done at Nissan because only they have the special Nissan lug wrench.

I have always had great luck with Merlins. I just had my Borla exhaust put on there a few weeks ago for $60. I have not had my Z brake work done there yet but I will soon be bringing them new rotors and pads to install for me. I have had a few cars that had brake work done there and all went well. If there is a problem with their work they will fix it for free.

I do my own oil changes & tune-ups; next mission is learning how to change pads, calipers, etc. Could anyone in the threads estimate the average time it takes to do a light break job? Thanks,--Ignorant n00bie from the AST zone.
