Default Install In Progress: Cobb Springs, HELP!

Installing Cobb front springs. Noticed that the spring bottom does not seat properly to strut. The spring hangs off. In comparison, the Cobb spring is larger in dia. vs. the stock spring. Is this normal??? Wrong part? Will post pic in a few minutes. My ZR is a 2005.

Default Cobb vs. Stock.

Hard to tell from pic, however, the Cobb's diameter is larger...thus, does not seat, fully. WTF?

Default Hang over.

Seems to have excessive overhang of spring on perch. Normal? I don't think so...

Instead of taking a chance on strut/coil/perch failure, I have reinstalled the stock coils.

I highly suspect they are for some other application. Very, very disappointed.

BTW...On the front Cobb springs, both coil ends are the same size. Where as the OEM springs, the coil has a smaller dia./tighter coil on the perch/bottom end only.

Hhhmm...
weird.
i have cobb springs installed on mine by a mechanic,, didn't hear anything about these matters though.
its been 4 days and seems/sounds/acts fine. but i am interested if there is a defect in designing although i hardly doubt it.

sure u have a correct part and installation?

goodluck though

..interesting. I got some help installing mine- I'll try to post up a pic tonight.

edit - this is from a 2006 Enthusiast Coupe. Maybe it has to do with you being a Roadster. (sorry for the dirt..it's spring-time and hard to keep clean) It is hard to tell any difference from the pics. Hope this help.

Thanks for the reply. Your pic is very helpful. It seems to confirm that the OEM strut design and/or Cobb springs are all same.

Your spring sits on perch like mine. Unfortunately, I am uncomfortable with the overhang of the coil on perch plate perimeter, and the coil's loose fitting tolerances around perch hub. Also, with consideration to the tremendous forces at work, I have safety concerns. Thus, all things considered, I am removing the spring set from my vehicle.

Cobb Tunning springs do NOT fit on the front strut perch....in fact half the spring hangs off the strut perch is is so big.

WHY...because the spring is the same diameter from TOP to bottom.

Here is the SCARY PART! i took measurements over the phone and compared them with Shayne from Cobb and he has the same measurements....in fact he just sent me pictures on my cell phone and they look IDENTICAL to mine!!!!!!!

DO NOT BUY THESE SPRINGS! i don't know who made them but i can tell you these were NOT R&D'd.....if they were they would have at least fit correctly!,

the spring is so loose on the bottom that i bet if you hit a pothole you would bend the strut rod. new_cussing.gif

I don't know how i am going to get my money back from the eBay seller.

i have wasted 500 bucks on two sets of springs.....the other set is Tanabe GF210's....they were WAY to soft and PROGRESSIVE and sucked....but at least i didn't have fitment issues with them!

I bought these in March of this month and it looks like 10 months have passed by and COBB hasnt done a DAMN thing about it!!!!

What the Hell is wrong with these people????

That's not good. Makes you wonder about their tuning.

copied the same post from the other thread to keep things up to date I suppose:

well as stated, I installed my D-Specs and Cobb springs on my G35 a week ago. I've been driving around with them like i normally do and I have had zero issues, noises, knocks etc. I noticed the same thing everyone is complaining about, the springs do not exactly fit snug at the lower spring seat (they seem perfect on top).

The only thing I can suggest is to first, install the spring insulators that are on your stock springs. They're the part that wraps around the lower coils. You can usually buy these new from auto stores as well. Second, before tightening them down, I would make sure they are centered on the seat as it is possible to off-center them which I would think could lead to some unpleasant dynamics.

I used 350Z spec D-Specs anf the Cobb springs are only made for the Z, I'm quite pleased with the drop. I'm not sure yet if I'll do a spring mount mod yet in the rear. I want to get wider wheels and tires before I do anything else.

Also I have these paired up with the Cobb sways, I love the entire package so far. I've had the sways on for a while now and loved them from the beginning. I have always had some rear endlink clunking though.
