Default Good cheap shocks?

Stocks are gone and my budget is as close to zero as possible. What do I get?

Edit: BTW, do I need new struts too, or no? Mine have 100k on em.

Another set of stockers?

You can also look into KYB GR2 although I wouldn't call them performance shocks, really. I think I'd pick used set of stockers over those.

I think the best/cheap set of aftermarkets are tokicos. Other than that, you end up going near $1k which is coilover territory.

$560? Too much. How much are the KYB GR2s, and would I really tell the difference?

Stockers run about $460 on autocenter.net but then you have to add shipping.

These Tokico DSpecs are adjustable it seems... and for only about $100 more for the set i'd just go for those. Anyone know how easy it is to adjust them front/back? I'd probably just put it on the stiffest setting though, I like my girls *** bouncing around all up in my face anyhow.

How much do used stocks go for, and would it better to grab these instead?

I grabbed a set of 07 struts/shocks with a set of 06 springs for my 03... and you feel a major difference from an 03 suspension to 06+ suspension... well atleast I do... no more chattering

...and I only paid like 80 bucks for the shocks and struts with 8k-10k on it.

Can anyone else confirm if I need new struts too, at 100k? If so, how much do used OEMs cost? $200 for shocks and how much for struts? And how much does labour cost to replace?

You started the thread by stating you needed new struts - there must be a reason why you think that.

Struts, and any suspension component, are wear items. At some point, they all need to be replaced (bushings, struts, even springs). A combination of mileage and the road conditions under which you drive your car determines the life of these. At 100k miles, it's a safe bet that at a minimum the stock suspension is worn, and you would inject a tremendous amount of new life, comfort, safety and handling back into the car by replacing the key components

Stock ones are about $500 for the set

The Z has struts out front, shocks in the back. People use the words interchangeably since they perform the same function but have a slightly different design. In it's most basic explanation, a shock has the spring separate from the damper, a strut is a "shock" where the spring sits on the damper itself.

Shocks progressively wear [reduce stiffness] so that by 60k they are done. Just something you budget for like tires, batteries, brakes, and all rubber hoses and bushings [hundreds of individual items].

The advantage of adjustables is you can progressively stiffen them to return to as new and double their useful life.

Sorry to hijack, didn't want to create a new thread. I have a 2003 with 48,000 miles. Road conditions around here are choppy with construction and cracks everywhere. Wondering if I should consider them soon also? I would go for the adjustable ones. To the thread starter, suspension to me is the life blood of any car for ride comfort, control, and treadwear. Don't go cheap bro.

Don't want to start a new thread either...

I am looking to purchase the Tokico HP Blue set and I was wondering if there is any difference for the 350z set and the G35 set? I found different part numbers for them.

Could the 350z set be used on a G35? I am assuming they are shorter like how the DSP9s are shorter than the DSP7s.
