Question Eibachs vs Nismo: Worth the $1000 difference?

I have been considering both the Eibach springs or the Nismo suspension kit for my next modification. Both systems have had very positive reviews as far as the lowering of the car, the elimination of the "bounce", and the improvement in handling. But is it worth the extra $1000 for the Nismo setup?

I know that the Nismo kit includes the shocks/struts and I also understand that my stock shocks/struts may wear out abit quicker with the Eibach springs but are the benefits that I would get from the Nismo kit that much better for the money or is this a case of "spend it if you have it"?

For your info, I don't intend to track the car but want a great handling car for spirited street, backroad and highway driving. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

i wouldnt buy the nismo, just for the fact that they are overpriced

you can buy a set of fully adjustable coilovers for equal or less

i am going to do the eibachs for a temporary fix till i get some mean horses under the hood, then i will do full coilovers

I have the Eibachs and I am happy with them and also track the car, I will eventually get some shocks when they come out like KYB or Koni, and will still be cheaper than the Nismo.

The reason the Nismo suspension costs so much more is because it includes the shocks / struts. If you lower the car on Eibachs, your stock shocks / struts will blow much more prematurely.

Thanks John. I do understand that the Nismo kit includes the shocks/struts while the Eibach are springs alone. To clarify my original question.....Will I feel that much improvement, if any, running the Nismo kit compared to just having the Eibachs with my stock shocks/struts? Even though my stock shocks/struts may wear out quicker (not everyone agrees), I would still have the $1000 that is saved for shocks/struts a few year(?) down the road.

My comparison is based on seeing Eibach Pro-kits @ 219 shipped and Nismo kits at $1200 shipped.

Go with Eibachs, you will have the 1000 as you said to get shocks later and if you only ride on the street the stock shocks should last a while.

you are forgetting the alignment issue. It seems the nismo springs dont lower the car as much and it can get back into alignment on the rear. It would probably cost you about the same if you went with the eibachs and then spent all the cash on rear suspension correction components to get the rear camber back within the min tolerence.

Well, that might be but I haven't seen anyone with S Tune post any alignment findings to know if that is the case. And in my case the only thing that ended up out was the toe in the rear and that was just slightly out so I will live with it and see, I want to get wider tires anyway

Overpriced? How do you figure? My compete kit WITH sways was $1750 shipped. You name another coilover set you can get with sways for less that equals or beats the performance enhancement of the S-Tune kit.

I have the Eibach springs, and I love them! You do get more negative camber in the rear, but since I just got the LSDUnique camber kit, it's all good now..

If you don't do track, and mostly want the looks and get rid of the bounceness, get the Eibach.

Btw, I have no problem with my shocks, and I don't think they will bust any time soon, unless you are looking for potholes..

Eibach springs are the best bang for the buck upgrade for me... other than Borla True Dual Exhaust!

One more thing, make sure you get your PULLING TO THE RIGHT fix before you drop in those springs, since dealer will not warranty the TSB if you have Eibach.. I found out the hard way

Can someone explain the "negative camber" issue to me. Does the front or rear alignment get out of whack or something when you lower the car with Eibachs? How do you fix that? Do you need a separate kit or can you just have it realigned???? Sorry for the lack of knowledge here.

Thanks

When you lower the car with any system it changes the alignment of the wheels, the larger the drop the more the alignment goes out.

The most affected parameter is the camber where if you r wheels looked like this l-----l before the drop they will look like this after /-----\ (looking from front or rear) which is great for the track as it helps get more tire on the road during hard turns.

The problem is that you cannot adjust the camber in the front of our cars and the rear has a limited range of alignment, that being said mine were fine after the Eibachs, the only thing was the toe in the back which means your tires point in or out as looking from the top, my fronts were able to be adjusted but the rears are slightly in, so far no problems.

I agree. The NISMO is not overpriced for the amount of improvement it does for the Z. My complete kit, including the sways, was $1350 shipped.

fdao,

Can you please tell me where you bought the Nismo kit plus sways for $1350 shipped? Sounds like a great price!

TimZ,

I actually dealt directly with NISMO Japan. I have a friend who does business there. He used his shipping container rate to ship my suspension, along with other stuff for his business. He was also able to get %5 off from NISMO as well. That's how I got it for such a good price.

What is the TSB # for the PULLING TO THE RIGHT problem. I experience this while driving and I thought maybe I hit a pothole wrong or something....didn't know this was a standard problem.

Like Droid and others said... get the full S-tune system... you will not regret it. Sell the wife, the kids, whatever...

It will let you know what the Z should have been out of the box.

For me.. I love it. In the future, I may opt for something more radical -- like R-tune... since I like a really hard but precise drive.
