Default Big Brake kit pedal feel?

I have this big brake kit http://www.essentialgears.com/tho/tr...T-3974246.html. My brake pedal with even the slightest pressure will stop the car. Do big brake kits normally have this effect? Its hard to come to a stop smoothly because the pedal is so much higher. I bought my 350 with it installed.

wait until you have to actually step on the brake hard. you might find your teeth on the windshield after they shoot out of your mouth.

seriously though, that can be expected with a BBK, they are larger and have a lot more stopping power than OEM.

yeah, go back to OEM brakes. seriously though what did you expect by adding a BBK if not to stop better? it just takes some getting use to that's all

I have the 4 pot Rotora BBK and that was my initially reaction the first time I hit the brakes. I was use to the OEM brakes. I got use to it already though.

me too, but it only happens with the one set of pads. My other pads feel just like normal brakes. I suggest Wilwoood BP10 pads, or EBG green.

That would very likely be a sympton of oversized caliper pistons leading to a very front baised condition or extremely high bite pads. A good indcator of this would be to see how easy it is to get into front ABS activation...the easier it is, the more front biased you are. The only "adjustment" would be to install very low bite pads to offset the effect or change out to calipers that have piston sizes more in the range that matches the stock parts.

^^ +1

Replace your pads with something that has less bite.

Quick story, same case different ride, I have SBK brakes on my SS Ducati, ductile iron rotors and carbon fiber rims, my old pads would stoppie her if I breathed on the brake lever, switched to a higher heat CF pads which didn't have as much initial bite but would increase as the pads heated up and didn't feel like i was peeling up pavement with my front wheel when I braked and had better brake modulation. Sounds like you have the same issue.

A properly designed BBK should have similar levels of pedal travel compared to stock to allow for adequate modulation ability. BBK's that have little pedal travel are not sized correctly and are using pistons that weren't chosen correctly for the application. This is pretty common with some BBK manufacturers who don't do R&D work and just make an adaptor to fit a generic caliper to a rotor for a vehicle.

My pedal travel changed also from switching from rubber to SS lines. Of course that has less to do with rotor/pad sizing and more to do with brake line expansion, but thought I'd mention it because it was noticable.

Wow excellent replies . My car needs the brakes because it is turbocharged, i was just curious if it the pedal could be adjusted to have a little more give. You answered my question though, as soon as the pads go, i will look into the brands you have mentioned. I am also running stainless lines i believe too. Sorry i just bought the car and im learning what all it has on it .

Turbocharging doesn't require new brakes. Track driving or Auto-X is where you will need new brakes.
