Default Brembo Rotor Problems!!!

Hi! I need some major help in this case. I have 23,700 miles on my 350Z Grand Touring, and I was informed that my rotors had to be replaced all four and brake pads. Each rotor costed $500!!!! I do not race the car, or excessively apply the brakes hard. I take care of it. What happened? Is it the chemical make-up of the brake pad and the rotor, or the EBFD?. Right now, I am in the process of researching the schematics and I am going to get to the bottom of this. It makes no sense? Something isn't fair.
And the car is still under warranty, and i was denied the approval for reimbursement. I was also informed that there were no other options, and when I found out there was from this site, I was speechless...Please if any of you are in the same situation, or may contain helpful information, i would like to hear from you. Thank you. i plan to take action on this case further because losing a couple of thousand dollars for rotors is unjustice.

I would just get a second or third opinion.

I instructed them to work on it, since there were no alternatives. That was my error. So I paid a lot.

Sounds like you got screwed. You can ask for the old parts back so that you or someone else can inspect them...? Not sure what you expect here.?

I would never get work done at the dealer unless it is under warranty. You can get aftermarket rotors for a fraction of what you paid.

Yes, you could have gotten rotors that are prob better than OEM for less than half the cost of OEM.

Plus, learn how to tell your pads are low and if your rotors have much face left = big lip.

This is not hard and only takes 5 seconds per wheel to just look at them.

But ya, you got screwed. Most likely you didnt need new rotors after 23,000 miles.

Wow I was quoted $375 a piece for brembo rotors. It has been about 2 years though. As far as I know most dealers only recommend oem replacement parts, but West Covina Nissan was an exception they offered an aftermarket equivalent for $125 each. Centric was the brand.

When I saw that your location was LA I assumed Los Angeles. If I am mistaken West Covina maybe too far a drive for the next set of rotors. There are always alternatives though.

i went with stoptech rotors and replaced them myself. you could also pay a shop to install them for you.

that sounds a little high. The dealership did my rotors and pads here when i purchased the car and it was around 1500$. 4 rotors and pads, OEM. With normal driving they were warped in 10k miles. Took it back and they resurfaced them and warped in 3k miles. Bought stoptech's and did it myself, now 2 years on them and working great.

I agree with you and I will do some research. It was a tiny lip. Thank you.

Do you think they installed it incorrectly?

i personally think i got a bad set of rotors. They weren't willing to replace them. They just wanted to keep resurfacing them but if it's bad metal then it won't last.

The dealership is 2 hours away so it's not worth 4 hours round trip every 3k miles to have them resurfaced. I just paid for them out of my pocket and did it in my garage.

I feel your pain. I had to change my pads and rotors at around 32,000 miles.

I would suggest you buy parts and have a brake shop or dealer install them. That way you can call around and get the best labor rate. You can get brembo drilled from tirerack for $333 for the set. Some nice street pads and you are set..

Go to the marketplace and check out some specials from other vendors... Lots of options out there.

You'll save a lot of money.

Thank you for your answer and experience. I wrote down the info. The sad part was that I was told there were no other options, and I said that was impossible. They are Brembo. They should have a variety. i will contact tirerack, and obtain extra info.

As far as OEM parts there is only one option, but they did not want to tell you about an aftermarket product. some shops are like this, some are not. As far as warranty is concerned, brakes are considered a wear item, like clutches, wiper blades, tires. There is a finite amount of time that theses are warratied, IIRC its 12 months, check the little warranty book that came with the car.

I have learned from working from chrysler that servicing OEM brembo's is crazy expensive, I would definately look into aftermarket parts in the future. Also, Brakes are not hard to work on, esp Brembos, ask around the forum or watch for a group install party in your area, you might find someone who will do a brake job for you for beer or like $50.

the best place (cheapest) to buy rotors is www.rockauto.com
you can get the centric premium (plain) for cheap (around 340 something all 4).
www.topbrakes.com for a nice set of ferodo DS2500 (about 220 all corners).
any shop shouldn't charge more than 4 hours to do the job RIGHT... and when I mean right, I mean including a nice cleaning of the pistons and brake assembly, torque everything down to spec (no impact gun) and even bleed your brakes.

btw... 36.000miles and my brembos are gone.. but 14 track days and 5 set of brake pads in the middle... so, they really did want your money.
