Default Midas trying to rape me on spring install

So I got my wheels put on a few weeks ago and decided to finally get my springs put on this weekend to close up the fender gap. I go to midas, drop my car off and they call me an hour later saying it's gonna be $950 to install all four springs and the rear camber arms. They also said it might be too low for them to do an alignment so they can't guarantee their work. I said hell no and brought my car home.

All of the local custom and tuning shops around here are closed on the weekend so I can't call to compare install prices. Am I wrong for thinking that a shop should be able to do this for a few hundred instead of a thousand dollars. What did everyone else pay to lower their car?

Just about any franchise shop like that is going to charge too much and give you the no guarantee with non replacement parts. Having said that, 950 is pretty high for the labor...

I work at a midas. I dont know where they got that price thats astronomical. My guess is 1.5 per side in front and 1 per side in the rear. thats a total of 5 hours. 5 x $95 is 475. Lol WOW. Im not sure whats involved with the rear camber arms but since your alrdy there i'm guessing another .5 hr in labor per side. Lets say 1 more hour per side. Thats still only 7 hrs lol. Go somewhere else.

Edit. BTW thats billed hours. That work shouldnt take anywhere near that amount of time. They basically charged you for 10 hrs labor lol.

My local Midas shop is one of the most filthy shops I have seen. Overfilled trash containers, disgusting floor. Would not let them touch my car.

A local shop recently install 4 springs-4 dampers for me. Cost $325. Not a performance tuning shop. Just a trusted shop with a 20 year history.

I advise all members to pick a local shop, and stick with it. Establish a relationship with the shop.

That's the price i was expecting.
My whole family has always gone to this midas and they've always given us great prices until I brought my car in for the first time today.

Luckily for me there's a bunch of shops close to my house so hopefully on monday I'll have a regular shop to go to.

Doing it yourself = free! It's an easy job bro...

Find a someone on the forum that is local and will do it for you... I'd do it for a case of beer if you lived around here

+1 to what caz said. I've done this for alot of local members. Post up in your regional forum and get help with it. You have all the parts, you just need tools and some help. Worst case scenario a local member might charge you a little bit.

I would recommend doing as everyone has stated.

Another option is to be patient and wait until a trusted shop is open and have them do the work correctly.

get some friends to help you do the install yourself. All you'll need are your basic tools and a spring compressor you can rent for free at autozone/advanceauto. It will take you around 5hrs-10hrs depending on how fast you guys work.

IF you dont have friends i suggest you find some

Taking a high performance sports car to Midas is kind of like going to the doc-in-a-box for heart surgery.

^ This should be the only response in this thread.

What did you expect taking it to Midas for christ sake?

Find a performance shop in your area to do the install. Springs usually go for around 150-250 for install, and rear arms are pretty easy to install, its the fronts that are PITA.

I paid 100 for springs install.

Just about every shop here told me about $800 or more to do it. One guy was even talking about needing to roll my fenders and a bunch of other crap I knew i didn't need.

But...I found a shop through the local forums and got the springs, camber arms and alignment done for $400.
I dont have any good pictures of it but this is what it looks like now.

springs haven't even been on for 24 hours. How long does it take for them to settle?
