Ok whats the proper breakin for these Hawks. Most new pads have to be driven easy for 500miles. Are these any different?

Just got through bedding mine in this morning (it's a lot of fun, too). Need to go out early morning on an expressway when there's no traffic.

Accelerate to 60 and slow quickly to 45. Accelerate again to 60 and again slow quickly to 45 (just don't let ABS kick in). Do this several times to warm the brake pads and rotors.

Then accelerate to 60 and slam on the brakes (again, just short of ABS kicking in) down to about 10 mph. [DON'T STOP!] Accelerate to 60 again and slam on the brakes again ... to about 10 mph. Do this 6-8 times to get the brakes really hot. Make sure to NOT come to a complete stop or you might have some pad compound transfer to your rotor.

After you've done the 60-10 stop 6 or 8 times, drive around for about 10 minutes without using the brakes (I got on the expressway to the beach). This will allow them to cool.

The rotors should have a bluish/gray look to them when you get through.

No squeals at all now!

I have these with stock Brembos DBA drilled/slotted rotors and SS lines. They work great, bite like a ***** and dont squeek.

I drove the Hawk pads for couple of hundred miles and it does release some dust. Maybe the pads are not broken in. But they do grab with little pressure.

Does hawk make a rear brake pad for regular oem brakes? Is it recommended to replace rotors when you change brake pads?

Just got mine Hawk front brake pad installed last week, But they do tend to squeal a little. I'm trying to bedding them tonight, hopefully that will take care of it. But I do really like the way it grabs.

Default Hawks

I have these on my wrx. Much better than the wilwood pads. Stop great, no noticeable dust and no noise after you bed them in. I had to bed them again after a particularly hard stop. No noise now. Next thing for the z..

After bedding them last night, most of the squeal went away. But occasionally still have slight noise come out every once a while. I'm really please with the Hawk pads!! It was really fun bedding them last night too!!:-)

Anyone want to make a good HOWTO writeup on changing the front brake pads? I really want to get a set of Hawk HPS, but I have never changed brake pads before. I'm ready to learn!

The writeup on zchicks.com is awesome, but it would help if the pictures went with the directions... I'm a visual kinda guy!
