Default shock valving vs. spring location

do shocks need to be revalved if you change the spring location but keep the same motion ratio?

ie: make a "true" coilover with a 5k spring into a divroced setup with an 8k.

any help is appreciated.

By changing the spring location you are changing the motion ratio. Do you mean change the spring rate to compliment the new motion ratio so as to maintain the same wheel rate?

Assuming the dampers were appropriately valved for your liking with the given wheel rate you had, then as long as you adjust the spring rate for the change in motion ratio to keep the same wheel rate, you'll be fine.
