Default Bad front control arm bushing?

It started out with me hearing a weird noise going over bumps to hearing a clicking at low speeds as I hit and released the brakes..now it went from a click to a loud banging and when the car is parked, wheels straight I can pull on the spoke of the front wheel and you can see it shift back and forth a little..seems like its the bottom that shifts not the top...any ideas?

Get the car up in the air (and secure), take the wheel off, and check it out.

This doesn't sound safe.

Do you have any aftermarket parts on the front suspension?

Try leaving the wheel on, (for leverage) and have someone else tug on the wheel while you get under the car and look.

Of course, it's extremely important to make sure the car is secure if you are under it and someone is pulling on it.

I usually put my Z on stands and slide some ramps under the car near wthe spot I'm working. Just in case.

I have seen aftermarket bushings go bad on the A-arms where they connect to the car. And I have seen sway-bar end-links not properly tightened at the point where they connect to the car.

Both can cause a clunking noise.

BTW, I'm not sure I understand what you are doing and seeing with regards to the movement you have observed. Was the car in the air when you think you saw the "bottom" "shift"?

No. with the car on the ground with the ebrake pulled up(so the car itself doesnt move) I can pull on the spoke of the wheel and watch the suspension and wheel shift front to back slightly..while the rest of the car stays where it is.

I'm at a loss without seeing what you are talking about, here is a link to a post in a suspension sticky. Maybe this expanded view of the components and how they go together will help you isolate what is causing the movement you are seeing.

Looks like the compression rod...(the bar going to the spindle above the transverse rod) When looking in there that seems to be the part moving at a different speed than the rest.

I have never done anything with that part. I think I saw a pic of one of those with an SPL (solid) bushing.

It looks straight forward, but I have no Idea what that part costs. (Stock or aftermarket)
