Default bronze ring on rotors - what is it?

I recently got new rotors ( R1 blanks ) and Nismo R-tune pads. I did a bed in procedure for the pads, but now I have bronze/copper colored ring on the inside of my rotor. Is that normal?

that is normal, it's the area of the rotor your pads are not touching.

you get what you pay for....

fwiw even the stoptech "coated" rotors(1pc) don't cover the entire unswept area.

however, the oem rotors do.

^ Nice, I will do this when I change out my brake pads later this summer. I actually was too lazy to do this when I chaged out the rotors almost 3 years ago. Why didn't you get the drilled & slotted rotord from r1

I'm assuming we're talking about R1Concepts. If you call and tell them you have that ring, they may send you new ones completely coated in zinc. Then you just have to burn off whatever your pads are touching and you're good.

What's the purpose of the tool shown in post #8, and how does it work?

sounds like a good solution. It sucks that I got there "premium" blank, but that area is prone to rust. Should have been painted or something from the getgo.

Wire brush then rust converter (sold at autozone, etc)...once dry your good, or you can spray with primer.........cover studs, don't get paint on the threads..

This stuff:

Then High temp paint or wheel paint has better additives for lasting on a rotor:
