I want to purchase a new spring compressor to change shocks/struts. I will only use these on two cars and possibly a friend's car or two.
Aside from a parts store loaner, I have only used my older harbor freight model. They were both the simple, cheap, two piece model...essentially each piece is a long bolt with hooks to engage and compress the springs. My harbor freight model didn't fail, but it has deteriorated. I can't remember the cost, but I'm confident it was under $20 and I definitely got my money's worth.
They are currently selling floor models at $200. I can justify that purchase amount if it's the last compressor I'll ever buy, but I don't have the floor space in my garage.
Can anyone recommend a brand/model? Are the clam shell models better? Are there inexpensive wall mount versions available? Really, any insight into these tools would be appreciated!

I have not used these personally, but have heard good things about them.

Post up a review, if you end up ordering them.

Not needed for a G or Z, the spring is hardly loaded. You can actually push rthe spring down enough by hand to start the nut.

^+1. they are obviously not required for the rears at all, and the fronts have some preload that you can manage by hand, unless you don't eat your spinach, beans, or wheaties.

The HF model is only $15 now. At that price you can buy a new one whenever you have a need for it.
