Default How to know when rotors are bad???

I've got an 04 350z with 63k miles on it. it has been running fine, recently I put my berk test pipes on and I'm pretty sure ever since they got put on I've been hearing a really weird noise (sounds like something dragging.. nothings dragging, just what it sounds like). anyways in wondering if that sound is just normal with the pipes or if my rotors my be going bad or what..?? I need new brake pads, they squeak pretty bad.. Any solutions? maybe brake pads will solve the noise? or is it just normal?

thanks in advance

Have you jacked the car up and rotated each wheel to see if the dragging is coming from the brakes? If you need pads, change them. Don't skimp on your brakes, they can save your life.

As for your rotors, are they warped? Heavily damaged surface? Get a caliper mic and check thickness. All those factor into whether they are bad or not.

EDIT: Was typing my response and just saw your 2nd reply. If it only happens when you brake, change your pads

+1 if u have 63k miles on it, it would be a good idea to change your rotors too (especially if they are still original). any time new pads are installed u at least need to get the rotors machined, this is suggested by every pad manufacturer. most local parts stores will measure and machine them, if they can!
best thing is new pads and rotors. do it right the first time, if u don't know what your doing and u want to do it on your own, have someone there who know what they are doing. its not hard just do it right!

Also check the dust shield to make sure the rotor isnt draggin on that. They're very easy to bend by accident.

This ^ , check em out and push them back away from the rotor if it is them, although if it was them the noise would happen 100% of the time...

Sounds like the wear sensor built into the pads. They worked like they're supposed to: got your attention, and you got the work done.
