Default Just replaced front brake pads but have a question

I replaced the front brake pads on my Z. First time doing a brake job myself. Been driving on them for a day now and car stops great. Guess I need to bed in the brakes now?

I have noticed also the pad doesn't seem to be contacting the outside part of the rotor per this picture. Is this normal?

Thanks for the help,

Mason

I believe it's normal for the pad not to contact the rotor all the way out (radially) as your picture shows. However, the difference in color of the rotor between the contacting and non-contacting areas seems too dramatic. Any weird sounds or smells or anything?

Yes, the contrast seems kind or weird but no strange vibration, smell or sound. The Z is a 2008 MT with 26,000 miles on it. Stock rotor (nissan resurfaced them about 8000 miles ago). New pads are BrakeBest Select Ceramic #C888.

The pad may not cover 100 percent of the rotor. This is just pad design. No problem.

Some manufacturers make a limited number of sizes, and they compromise on how closely they match the OEM units. You're almost always going to have a ridge around the edge of the rotor, but yours is the widest I've seen. Usually it's about 1/16".

Its hard to see in the pic but looks like its making contact with the entire rotor instead it looks as though something got under the pad and when it was compressed indented a small line around the rotor maybe a small pebble or something...
Bedding the pads in directly after install would have been ideal but i would do it as soon as you possibly can...

Goodluck!

Thanks for all the input...

I might just go ahead and buy them and replace these pads I bought. Don't like how the only cover part of the rotor. How much do those HAWK HPS costs and where can I pick them up at?

I actually have a set of brand new front Hawk HPS pads for a 2006 G35 coupe. Car got wrecked before I could install them. I'm not sure if they'd fit your Z, what year is it? I'll sell them for $50 shipped. They're usually about $80 + shipping.
