Default Scraping noise

Hey guys, I just installed a set of OEM brembos not too long ago (upgraded from OEM brakes). Well, I installed them upside down at first and when I was driving, I heard a scraping noise coming from the rear right rotor. Well turns out, the dust shield was scraping against he rotor (I cut it to make room for the bigger rotors). So I pulled the dust shield away and no longer heard scraping. I then uninstalled the brakes and reinstalled them correctly (right side up). Once again, I hear a scraping noise coming from the right side (rear I think). So i jacked it up, Cleaned all the rotors with brake cleaner, inspected everything to make sure there was nothing rubbing against the rotor, and found nothing. It's pissing me off and it's very embarrassing to be driving and hearing that scraping noise. It's not a steady scraping, its in quick, short intervals.

If any of you guys can help me or point me to a thread where ths problem has been discussed already, please do so! I am at work and don't have time to search through all 251 pages here in the brake section. Thanks guys.

Instead of cutting the dust shield, I recommend removing it all together. I had the same problem when I installed my OEM brembos in the rear and I just removed it. Problem solved!

New pads? Old? New rotors? Old?

Did you check the e-brake assembly/brake shoes on the rears? How tight is the e-brake when you pull it?

Removing the rear dust shields is a big pain and time consuming. I just cut mine off as much as possible.

Front has little dust shields too. They can get bent easily and scrape on the rotor. If you're not looking out for it you probably wouldn't notice.

new pads (stupid cheap ones that came with em). Brand new rotors. E-brake is the same, no more no less than it was before i installed the new brakes. Thanks for the help guys. I'm gonna jack it up tonight and see if I can fix it. I looked closely and didn't see any contact between the dust shields and the rotor. Is it possible that the rotor doesn't spin completely perfect and might rub the dust shield if there is a minimal gap between the two?

Did you find out what the issue was?

The only way I could see it not spinning perfectly is if the wheel isn't torqued down to spec or if the rotor is warped, but you said they are brand new.

I noticed you said you got cheap pads that came with them. Maybe they're not bedded correctly and they're rubbing against the center of the rotor?

One thing you can do is jack up the rear and put it up on jack stands, then turn the car on and leave it in 1st. It shouldn't stall as there is almost no load on the axles. You should be able to hear the sound and see where it's coming from.
