Default Compression Rod Help / Popping Noise

Ok so the story is that I hit a curb going probably about 30mph. I bent my compression rod up front. So I bought one from Oreillys. Replaced it and it started making this popping noise when I would hit bumps or hit the brakes. So I thought maybe it was the cheap Oreillys part. So I went and bought an OEM Nissan compression rod. Replaced it, still same popping. Am i not tightening the ball joint enough? I tightened with an impact the first time. Then the second time, I tightened it with just a ratchet until it started spinning. Then stuck a pick through the cotter pin hole and tightened it a lot more. Same popping noise. Is it that ball joint? or could it be something else? I took it to Nissan today to have it inspected. All they told me was that the hub was bad, which i knew and they wouldn't know anything else until that was replaced and it was aligned.

Chances are you have more than just a compression arm bent.

Mine made a popping noise in the same situations that you're describing. After I removed the old ones, I noticed that the ball joints were worn and had a lot of movement.

Well Nissan said nothing else really looks wrong, just needs alignment and the hub. And it only started popping after i changed the compression rod. So maybe Im not tightening it enough? Can anyone else give some insight on to the tighten while it's on the groud?

This way you wont damage the bushings.

I hit a curb pretty good while going about 30 and have the same issue. Popping and clunking from the front driver corner when hitting bumps and pressing the brakes. My front driver wheel was cut, outer tie rod was bent, wheel bearing busted so replaced all those parts. I've also replaced the spindle with one from a junk yard, the ball joint is leaking but not torn. Replaced compression rod bushings and the noise is still there. Seems like it has gotten worse in the last month.

Do you feel vibration in the gas pedal while on the highway? I was planning on replacing the whole compression rod, but sucks it didn't work for you.

I feel like you tightened the ball joint end of the compression rod enough. As long as the conical bushing is in the lower control arm and snug, I don't see how that could be causing the same noises.

^ I thought I wrote this myself, almost exact same scenario.

Hit a curb about 20 mph. It made no noise until a week after the repairs, and has got progressively worse by the day seems like. I had to slam the brakes to make the pop noise but now happens during medium braking and 3 point turns. I was able to drive my car in an unrepaired state for a couple months and during that time there was no noise. My steering rack also clunks when turning the wheel left to right quickly, but thats always been there.

Ill update with results from the suspension shop once I get around to taking it in.

I've also replaced my steering rack and the noise is still there.

I replaced the whole driver side compression rod and the popping noise is gone! The car rides a lot smoother over bumps and I don't feel much feedback through the pedals.

Was the tapered cone for the ball joint part re-installed?
