Brake pad suggestions for autocross
It's time for new pads and I wondered what folks use for autocross. I drive this car on the street as well as autocross, no tracking. I don't want to change anything that would make the car non-stock, so thought I could play with the pads. I don't want to break the bank, but am not sure what the options vs. price range is. Thanks!
If there are 25 different types of pads, you'll get 25 recommendations. But I'll toss my .02 in first and say I like the EBC RedStuff pads. Good grip hot or cold, little to no dust, and they have a coating on the new pads to clean the old residue from your previous pads off the rotors, which makes bedding in really work great. I get them from amazon.com, because they have the best prices usually, and I have a Prime account with free shipping.

Not track pads, but the best of both worlds hand down.

agreed, stoptechs were pretty good on the street. im not sure what tires youre running, but i found the dunlop star specs pretty good for autocrossing/daily street tire. pretty good grip cold/not a lot of heat in them.
I've also used them on a time attack event (Street modified class) and they were ok. They get pretty weak after around 10-15minutes of hard laps though.
I do about 4-8 autocrosses per year and have had no problems with my Hawk HPS pads for street and autox. I guess it all depends on how serious you are into autox. Tires...now that's another story......
Thanks for all of the comments. I have narrowed down to Hawk HPS or HP+. If I do a fair amount of street driving, are the HP+'s too loud. I have heard they squeal a lot.
Tires- I have Dunlop Star Specs. Love them!

I have em and for street they are PRIMO..zero noise cold stop is very good.
I took em out this week on canyon run...ZERO fade.
When I bedded in I KILLED em with 80-20 pull downs ..20 on a row...ZERO fade.
These SOBs will NOT fade...of course at Laguna Seca..that would be another story..LOL.

My HP+'s are moody when it comes to noise. (I'm on my second set) Sometimes the are quiet, other times they sound like fingernails on a chalk board. They seem to be quiet with some consistency when warmed up though. They have consistently great bite and good heat tolerance.
HPS pads have less bite than stock pads. Compared to stock pads, they take heat better, are gentle on the rotors, and make very little dust. The lower initial bite makes them "feel" like a performance downgrade on the track though. They still engage ABS on aggressive street tires, but you have to put your leg into it like you mean it.
I'm on star specs too. I have tried a lot of different tires and I think this is the stickiest compound I have had. I wish they offered more sizes though. I have to run smallish tires to get these in 17's. (255/265)
I still haven't tried the RS-3's yet.
