just installed ceramic hawk pads
i installed these brake pads about 200 miles ago and just now they are starting to make some noise. i didnt resurface my rotors so im wondering if that is why they are squeaking. on my oem pads it looked like there were two sets of pad shims. i only installed the first pair on the pads. i cleaned them and then put the grease that came with the pads on. why could they be squeaking? it is not all the time, only sometimess.
My Centric ceramic pads took about 1k miles to quiet down. If I recall, they were really quiet at first then they started making an almost metal on metal noise when they would heat up. After another thousand or so miles (where I'm at today) I haven't noticed any noise that I can think of in a while. Give it some time, these ceramic pads take a while to bed-in.
Sometimes pads just squeak, almost like a break-in period. Do they squeak all the time while driving without braking? Or only when braking. Do they stop squeaking during HARD braking or only under light braking.
Yep, all the years I've been here I've heard this about these pads. I remember installing my new Stop Tech BBK. It came with aggressive race pads. They squeaked like a SOB. After exhausting all options(created an extensive write-up), I decided to swapped them out. Now I never have problems.
BTW, alot of diehard brake enthusiast will tell you it's "recommended" to resurface your rotors everytime you change pades, but it's not. You really only need to resurface them if they have any notches or slight warping. You'll know, because everytime you apply the brake at highway speed, the steering wheel will shake...

so is it true that hawks pads create a crap load of brake dust like said earlier? I had a friend who used hawks and the brake dust build up was crazy on his car..That steered me away from them since I don't wanna clean my wheels every 3 days
If you dont plan on ever road racing stick with OEM Nissan pads.
The Hawk Ceramic Pads are good low dust pads, the performance for them is below OEM. The HPS are good pads as well just around OEM, if you want something to have better bite and better fade resistance, try Stoptechs, the only downside is a little bit of dust.
