I thought most aftermarket bars have clearance issues on the hr...

I know Cusco, Tanabe, ARC, there's actually quite a lot that fit just fine. Look in this thread for some ideas

Torsional rigidity is less important but may contribute to overall stiffness of the bar. Bars triangulated into the firewall like on the 370 and new mustang are even better.

Those front lower bars that tie into the plastic part of the core support are only good for adding mass where it isnt wanted and therefore a waste of money, imo.

Per the FSM on OEM bar adjustment:
"INSTALLATION
1. Install tower bar and tighten at the specified torque.
NOTE:
If it is hard to install tower bar, install it turning center bolt.
2. Tighten center bolt to the direction in the figure on 660° (Or turn
bolt 1.7 times) to place the black mark of center bolt above.
NOTE:
The space between tower bar and engine collector should be
between 10.0 mm (0.394 in) and 17.0 mm (0.669 in).
3. Tighten both nut of the right and left side of center bolt."
Great info guitman32! Thanks, that clears up a lot.

Interesting your comment highlighted in the quote above.... Volvo offered their "R-Sport" strut bracing that tied into the firewall for the 200 series Volvo. They resembled copper pipes mashed down on each end and drilled for mounting.

And, if you ever look under the hood of a 240 (zzzzzzzzz......), you'd see that the holes for mounting the R-Sport bars existed on ALL production 240s.

Oh, and by the way, this was back in about 1974.

Mic

PS I might be mistaken but these were available for the earlier 140 series as well I THINK. Either way.... nothing new about strut tower triangulation.

^1 absolutely, good point on this tech being nothing new, lol.

And to take it a step further on any strut style platform, like the 240, im sure benefits of a triangulated bar are amplified due to the added forces concentrated in that area.

I forgot to mention if youve ever actually had someone stomp on the brakes while looking at the brake master and observed the movement...Im actually a believer in tower bars with an integrated MC brace.

Definitely! I think early in this thread, there was some discussion of the MC brace. I was intrigued by that. Old track trick in my S30 and roadster days, bracing up the MC but to integrate that into the design of the tower brace....ingenuity!
