Love the double drilled look but of course am very dubious about eBay rotors with not a ton of info found from Googling.

These are most likely cheaply made rotors from China. Another note: drilled rotors will NOT extend the life of your brake pads. They'll act like cheese graters and cause increased wear over a solid surface. Additionally, I'm not a fan of drilled rotors as they put stress risers across the surface of the rotor, which allows cracks to form. Racers know to spend money on substance (like higher carbon steel) rather than cheap gimmicks like drilled rotors.

 

Thanks for the post....and you're right, the drilled rotors won't extend the life of my brake pads, I'm just wanting drilled for the looks. I don't track the car at all and never will.

Really I just want a great looking set of drilled rotors for as little as possible that are safe and reliable for daily driving and highway use.

I'm just concerned about warping or cracking but not sure that would really be an issue for someone that never tracks the car? (me)

Don't. Just don't. What you're looking for does NOT exist. You're gonna pay a TON for a PROPER set of drilled rotors (as in those that aren't actually drilled after casting).

Not necessarily. Plenty of guys in this forum buy the Brake Motive rotors from eBay, including Brian McCann (the guy that has the tricked out show car 350z in Phoenix, AZ).

Brake Motive rotors are less than $200 for a set of four and are drilled and zinc coated. And they're completely reliable with a great reputation.

As long as they're drilled through gaps between the support structures in the rotor, and not drilled through the support structures, the integrity isn't necessarily compromised.

Lots of companies make their money by charging a lot for things that just aren't true but they're willing to take your money as long as you agree to be taken advantage of. And there are plenty of quality products out there that compete with established brands while charging much less than the brand name. The brand just implies you can trust their product, so people spend a lot. But branding doesn't mean the quality is higher necessarily than a lesser known brand.

You won't find any drilled that are truly safe and reliable but you could probably get by on the street.

If you are going for looks and want safe rotors get slotted rotors from a reputable manufacturer like centric(stoptech), ebc, or dba. There are more manufacturers but those are the one I can think of that have slotted options. You will still make pad wear worse with slots but you shouldn't cause any major changes to thermal mass or rotor strength.

 

I mean you can do what you want, but there's reasons why the rotors are so cheap.

They're literally drilling holes into something that wasn't designed for drilling holes through. Of COURSE the integrity is compromised, which is why sh!tty, cheap drilled rotors crack.

AFAIK, Brian doesn't daily his Z.

Anyone with even half an ounce of knowledge knows that the two areas of your car you should NEVER cheap out on are tires and brakes.

 

A few years ago I bought a used set of Brembo's, and a brand new set of these rotors was included:

Usually, I'd buy blanks, but since I had them, I put them on the car, with the rebuilt Brembo's and EBC RedStuff pads. Approx. 10k miles later, no issues, and Centric rotors certainly have a good reputation for being quality parts, so I'd feel safe recommending these.

I've run these C-Tek Centrics on my Volvo S60R and the StopTech versions on my Z33 and Z31. For just a little bit more than those EBay rotors - which are probably just fine for street but no more than that worth the risk - I'd go Centric/StopTech at least.

"Just a little bit more" = roughly $30 - pocket change - based on the prices linked!!

Brake Motive is $180 shipped for four rotors and all brake pads....the Centrics add up to $300 if you buy Centric pads to match the Brake Motive offer.

If I just buy the rotors then yes the difference is about $30 but then I still have to buy brake pads from someone, and pads are pretty much at least $100 no matter who is purchased from.

Truly appreciate the link though...am considering their rotors as I know Centric is decent quality and I don't need more than decent for my uses.

There must be some confusion here as:

The link that dcains posted shows all four C-Tek Centrics at $268 SHIPPED. for Brembo equipped Z.

The link you posted shows those rotors at $239 PLUS $33 shipping. Near as I can add, those Ebay rotors are $5 MORE with the shipping I didn't see earlier.

Not sure where pads came into this. Nor where "Brake Motive" was mentioned until later in the thread. OP and title state "Quick Stop Pro".....

 

I'll explain...sorry for any confusion but it's simple once you see the dots connect.

I asked about Power Stop Pro rotors, someone said all quality drilled rotors are expensive, I then explained that there are inexpensive drilled rotors known to be reliable and Brake Motive is the main example I'm aware of regarding inexpensive drilled rotors that can be trusted for daily driving. Never provided a link to Brake Motive, but explained they can be bought for $180 with pads on eBay. Just search on eBay and you'll find Brake Motive rotors are sold at varying prices for the same thing...dunno why....but you can get the Brenbo-compatible rotors with pads for $180 shipped, other listing on eBay show them at higher prices for the exact same rotors, but no point in paying more than $180 when they can be purchased for $180 directly from Brake Motive and that includes the pads.

I'll probably be buying a set of Brake Motive rotors before long, probably going to pass on the Power Stop Pro since it'd be $400 total to add pads to their rotors. No real point in doing that when 180 gets the job done and looks great.
