how many miles did it take until your front brakes wore out?

He was telling me about some guy whose car was labeled as "abused" by nissan b/c the front pads were toast at 8k...I told him most people only get 12-15...he said that's the norm, and made the excuse b/c they were high performance (yeah right).
Anyway, he said we should be grateful, b/c some of the new nissan products (he said the Titan and Armada) had pads that last 1/2 as long.
I think Nissan has set up a beautiful scam on these pads...an easy way to rip us off on service. Hope the aftermarket pads are good...my car prob won't be seeing anymore of this nissan crap.

First, I think you should all learn how to check your pads (not change them, but just check). I think this is important, because I've seen many places recommend a new pad when the existing one is only 70% worn. If you are about to do a track day or somthing, then you'd definitely want to change the pads right before hand, but otherwise that 30% can be quite a bit of miles.
Second, my rear pads have seemed to wear out much quicker than my fronts (I've gone through an entire rear set in 2 days at the track). My fronts wore eventually, but lasted much longer. After 4 track days and 34,000 miles, I'm on my second set of fronts and 2nd set of rears (although the rears are probably due for a change).
Third, changing pads is very easy, and probably something worth learning (if you find you are wearing the pads frequently). I know that most places near me were charging $200 to change the pads, but you can do it yourself for just the cost of the pads.
Finally, I guess the pads do wear out pretty quick, but since I've been AutoXing and spending some days at the track, I haven't expected many miles out of the brakes. So, I don't mean to make light of any issues anyone else is having. Good luck!
Oh yeah, JSN350Z, I've got your dust cleaning device:
It's called a garden hose! Just spray the wheels out.
Way less expensive than $60. My Brakes have been squeaking for a while, but after washing my car the other day, the noise has gone down by a significant amount.
