After AutoX Pic

Does anyone have some good race pads they can recommend. My brakes would only last about three laps before they would fade away. I used the pads that came with the kit but obviously they don't work to good.

wow... you got gold ones now! are you going keep them like that, or maybe switch to another color?

i am thinking if i get the silver 14" fronts, they will end up matching my brembo rears. good deal

I think I am just going to keep them like that. I am assuming all the colors will change with extremely high temps except black.

Your right I now have Brembos! LOL

Is this overheating from three laps of Autocross or track?

I am not sure if it took only three laps or not. I went out on my first 20 minute session and my brakes had faded completely in around three laps so I came in probably after about 10 minutes and thats when I noticed the brakes went from silver to golden brown.

Road Warrior, I thought the same thing!

you think it might be gold and Stoptech just painted a layer of silver paint over it? and when it got hot, then the silver paint melted some how?

silver did not melt off... if so, the stoptech sticker on top of the silver would have fallen off. looks like the paint just changed chemically with the super hot temps.

Mine changed too, though the red stayed the same. The white lettering changed to a cream color. Think of it as a badge of honor. You are among the few who actually used your big brake upgrade as they were meant to be used.

STX,
20 minute sessions? It sounds like you were doing 'open tracking' rather than AutoX.

While I do have to admit the 'gold' color is actually kind of cool looking, but is this dramatic color shift a common problem for colored StopTechs under full track condition? I have to say I'm a little surprised by this coming from StopTech.

I will have to re-think the 'silver' calipers and possibly go with anodized black.

Can you post a pic. I am considering the red stoptechs.

Wow. Just ****ing wow. You used the Axxis Ultimates that came with the kit. Somehow you thought street pads would hold up to open tracking. Did you leave in the stock DOT 3 fluid as well?

The Ultimate pads are supposed to handle close to 1000 degrees.

Axxis Ultimate

That should be good enough for AutoX don't you thinK?

For brake fluid, how about ATE Super Blue boiled over!

I go to the PCA AutoX which is more like a High Speed DE than an SCCA AutoX. They put you in groups and you run in 20 minute sessions for practice and at the end of the day you run your times. I can usually get the car over 105+ mph in the average AutoX courses they hold.

Check out these 'before and after' photos. It's not a big deal at all, definitely don't let this affect your decision to buy them or not. They're still beautiful looking, but better than that, they performed flawlessly on the track at both Lime Rock and Summit Point.

The change in color of the Reds aren't nearly as dramatic as the change of the Silvers. I think Black would be the best way to go if a person was worried about the paint color changing.
