No need for alignment if all your changing is sways.

For anybody that thinks the McMasters collars are unnecessary..THINK AGAIN. I had installed my Hotchkis sways and ran on them for a month or two. Besides daily driving, I AutoX'ed it a couple times. When I finally got around to putting the collars in, I actually had to loosen up the mounting bolts to readjust the front bar, just to get the collars on...

No. Sway bars don't affect alignment. Just bolt them in.

Use a marine grease. I have used this on my Hotchkis and it does not come off, It is used to lubricate boat props and will stand the test of time agains the eliments. Any auto supply should have it as well as Marine Stores.

Good luck

does anyone think that these collars are actually having a bigger effect on the swaybar then just not making it move. if ur putting the collar on the bar, its kinda like having two seperate bars. its really tightening up the bar, and not using the whole bar. Hence making an already stiff swaybar, that much stiffer? Am i over thinking here?

The collar just clamps on to the bar, it does not "tighten" it up by clamping hard against the bushings. If you took off the endlinks, you could rotate the bar with the same amount of force with the collars on or off. The amount of lateral force on the sway bar is relatively small. So even if the collar pushes against the bushing in a corner the amount of rotational resistance it would add is negligible. It would almost certainly add less rotational resistance than having the sway bar slammed all the way to one side.

Are those collars unique to mcmasters? They are a long way from here, and i'd rather not wait on shipping.

basically where else might I be able to find collars so I don't have to wait on shipping?

You might be able to find them at a hardware store, but I doubt it. Mcmaster has distribution facilities on the East Coast. So I doubt you'd have to wait more than a day for them.

On another note, this thread is probably moot now that Hotchkis decided to include collars with their new bars.

When did Hotchkis start including them? I installed the TVS in March and no collars were included. I need to call the vendor I bought the kit through and see if they will "grandfather clause" the collars.

Nope, the bushings are not the collars. The poly bushings replace the stockers but utilize the OEM swaybar brackets. Make sure you use the grease (included in the kit) on the inside of the bushings and wear gloves while handling the grease/bushings, it's really tough to wash off your hands.

Zillinois - Thanks for your help! I have had the collars on for a few months now and they work perfect! And you are right - my front had moved over 3 inches or so and it on mine, it seemed to be binding.
If you ever do a track event in the South, let me know as I will probably be there too.
