Default $500 over invoice "out the door" would mean...

that the dealer is eating a big chunk of the sales tax, and all other fees and costs. No way you could hope to get that on a Z, even with any dealer kickbacks that may be applicable.

Of course, I agree. Always ask them for the base price you are getting on the vehicle and then ask them for the OTD price. Always work seperately of a trade-in to start. There are so many ways for them to give you the car cheap but make it up in other areas so work one area at a time. And when you do get the OTD price ask for a break down so you know whats taxes and whats dealer fees.

What was your OTD price break down? Did they charge you any dealer fees such as freight? Or was it JUST Tax, Tag, Title.

Default Not great, but depends..

Based on other experiences (including mine) of getting an offer of $500 over invoice, 3% is not fantastic. Not bad, and it depends to a certain degree on the model you are looking at, but figuring on a vehicle with options totaling $25k invoice, you are looking at $750 over.. Obviously, as invoice goes up, dealer profit goes up.. I honestly think you can do better.. I would shop around a bit more and let them know that you are patient and looking for the best figure then can give over invoice.. Getting into percentages doesn't thrill me.. I generally am more comfortable with a sum certain over invoice so I can more efficiently find the "winner".

In any event, good luck shopping.
