Pay it all, or finance?

Pay it all, or finance?
Hi, I'm new to these forums, and I just have a few questions for you guys. I'm 19 and in college, but I really want a Z. So I plan to take 2-2.5 years off from school and just work, in order to save enough money to buy a Z, and to pay for the rest of my school. I planned to just write a check for the car, when I had enough money, but I've heard that the dealer will be very firm on their price if you don't intend to finance. So should I pay it in full, or finance it?
Thanks, Chris

STAY IN SCHOOL, you have many years of work coming after you graduate. Enjoy college life...I miss those days and I had alot of fun! go apply for grants, apply for FASFA next year. There are a lot of financial options for students going to school.
Yes you do not Necessarily have to graduate to have a good job or to excel in your job. It is just good to have that accomplishment. I guaruntee that you taking a 2 year break from school will make it harder in the future for you to resume your studies. I hope that you will reconsider having a piece of metal that will depreciate day after day compared to having your degree that will enhance your career development. But only YOU know what is best for you. Good luck in your decision!

With any other major, I would agree with you. But I'm going for a photography major, and leaning towards "art" photography, rather than commercial. So after I get out of school, not only will I be making mere pennies per year, but I will have loans to pay off too. And chances are that I'll never be able to get a Z. That's the price I pay for my career, which I wouldn't ever think about changing.
Basically, if I want this car, which ooooooh, I do, I'm going to have to get it now.
Thanks, though

No problem. Like I said, only you know what is best for you. And if you had the funds, then pay cash, you'll save in the long run. If you finance, interest can be tacked on and will probabby cost you about 3-4 grand for financing. Its whatever situation you are in.

The 350Z is cool, and considering that you are 19, I can understand the attraction. In the other hand, let's be reasonable about your post and situation. Do you have money for a down payment now? Are you able to finance the balance?

I spent what money I did have on photographic equipment this fall. That would have been my down payment.
What I'm thinking about doing is taking time off from school, working like crazy, and saving money. From there, I have two options:
1. Save up for a while, and put down say 10,000, finance the rest. (get car sooner)
Or
2. Save up for whole time I'm out of school, pay in full, right before I go back to school (get car in couple years).
I'm leaning towards saving the whole amount, just to have it paid off. And besides, with each new model year, they improve stuff, so by the time I have my car (08 model) who knows what nice features it'll come with.

Very true..... I've gotten used to the idea of paying everything off..... The only thing that I have a leen on is my house (morgage) orther than that my motto is ''Dont buy anything that you cant afford now''..... I might not have everything I want, but it feels good to not have any debts!!!
Good luck with school,
Cheers!

In regards to your original question, I think you might be able to get one for a little bit less if you finance it. I think the best thing to do is save up the money so you can pay cash for it, but let them finance it for you (so you get the best price), then just pay it all off in the first month.
But honestly, I'd think a lot more about this if I were you. You're nineteen. Of course you'd like a 350Z. When I was nineteen I wanted a Corvette. Then reality kicked in and I bought a Hyundai. I paid it off and then bought a Honda Civic. Paid it off, THEN (17 years later!) bought me a 350Z.
If you're not making good money now, and don't plan on making good money after college, I would argue that now is DEFINITELY not a good time to buy an expensive sports car. It's a good time to dream, but making a bad move now can screw up your credit (and therefore your future) for years and years to come.
Sorry if I'm giving a lot more advice than you were looking for. Take it for what it's worth. I'm just a 40 year old guy with f'd up credit. ;-)
P.S. If you can save up enough cash in a couple years of working to buy one outright, GO FOR IT!!
