Default Good price for Touring 6-spd or not?

I talked with dealership last evening for a deal on a new 2006 Z Touring, Silverstone 6-Spd MT, Aero Pkg, Alum Kick Plate, Cargo Net, Floor Mats, Splash Guards, Sirius Sat Rad, Trunk Mat and including Delivery Freight Chg of $605 for total of $34,437 not including tax, tags, etc. Dealer claims they are selling at $700 over invoice for internet customers that then come into dealership to complete the sale.

A 6-spd manual trans Touring model is almost unheard of in the high traffic metro area where I live. Several dealerships told me they only order 5-spd Auto for Touring and Roadsters because of the customer profile who buys at the higher end of the 350Z food chain. They don't usually like to keep pushing the clutch pedal in all the time while sitting in rush hour traffic for two hours a day. I have previously owned two Eagle Talon TSi AWD cars with 5-spd manuals so I am used to shifting in traffic and would rather have the performance than the convenience of an Auto.

Do you guys think $34,437 is a fair value for this car with these options? The dealer is having to go to some trouble to get the car, it is not on their lot. They are trying to pull it from another dealer about 50 miles away and it's the only Touring 6MT within several hundred miles or more. Have not heard from them today yet about if they will get it or not.

Thanks for your replies.

Hes trying to basically sell it to your for MSRP, I would look at kbb.com and give him the invoice price from there. $34285 is the MSRP for all the options you listed. Tell the dealer he is on crack, he is actually quoting you above MSRP! Invoice for everything listed is, $31,577 and that includes destination.

www.kbb.com

Do your homework or you will get raped!

Welcome to the forum.

Just a bit of advise. Never ask how much a car costs. Never. Study the prices. Calculate your best price. Visit and make an offer.

That doesn't sound like a bad deal, but it's nothing to brag about. There are tons of Z's out there so take your time and poke around.

If they have to grab the car from another lot then they'll want to charge you a bunch more. They might say $600 for destination charge but they're adding in more $ into the price for the bother.

Go to Kbb.com or Edmunds.com and print out the invoice price for that exact car w/ those options. Show that to the dealer and tell them you'll pay $500 over invoice (maybe a bit more since they have to go get the car for you). They will no doubt tell you that they are charging more because the car is "in high demand" but that's B.S. There are a ton of 6MT Touring's out there.

Whatever car that you want to buy is in high demand. Whatever you have for a trade-in is in low demand. Go figure.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Dealer called me today. They found a 2006 Touring 6MT with all the options I asked but in addition it has the Side Air Bag Curtains, so I will be paying some extra $620 for that. I had told them in advance that the Side Air Bag option was not a deal breaker but maybe I should have kept my mouth shut on that one, they might have tossed it in for no extra charge. The dealer's price quoted to me today is: $33,871.46 as the "drive out" price, with everthing... taxes, dealer prep, whatever, all included in that price. No higher cost than that unless I want to add an Extended Service Warranty when I go to get "worked over" by their financing department.

I met the salesman last night that I had e-mailed and talked on phone with before, he seemed genuine, honest and fair with me. But, yes, I will run the Edmunds/Kelly Blue Book figures for Dealer Invoice with these options and see what it comes to. It does seem that local Nissan dealers have a small surplus of Z cars on their lots now. I've been to three in the past ten days and each one had at least five or six Zs sitting there, some still have the '05 Roadsters and a 35th Anniv model was available too.

Again, thanks for your comments and advice.

So you get the side curtain air bags and pay less? Sounds good.

That's not a bad price incl taxes, plates, and all that other crap.

I suggest you shop around a couple of more dealers and see if they can beat that offer of 33,800. You never know that there might be dealers out there who want your business....

(33871-32008)/32008. Nearly 6% markup over invoice? Holy ****! That isn't just a bad deal...that's highway robbery

Considering that includes taxes, etc., it really depends on the tax rate of the particular state.

I'm trying to get the same car with the same options minus the aero package but in white with a Nismo spoiler and I got quoted $32,300 OTD....and I'm having chest pains. If I don't get the financing I want tomorrow, they will have two choices: 1. bring the price down to about $31,300 OTD or I walk, I gave them $500 with Amex as good faith which is refundable.

Why wouldnt you just go to the dealer that actually has the car in stock? Drive the 50 miles yourself. Try going to carbuyingtips.com, they give a bunch of tips on buying new cars and how to do tons of research onlne before you even go into a dealer and walk out knowing you got the best deal!
