Default How do I deal with this (dealer specials)?

My local dealership recently began advertising a special where they will be matching people's down payments up to $3k. So if I put down 8k, they'll make it 11k, etc. I'm thinking this is the perfect time to step into a Z if they can get me the options I want (DB Enthusiast 6MT....may be picky but if I'm dropping ~30 grand I want the color I love ). It should also be noted that the local place also offers $500 off to recent graduates, which I apply for.

So now how do I got about negotiating with these incentives? Do I hold off on mentioning them until after we've settled on a price (I'm looking to get to around 28k or 29k OTD BEFORE the incentives). I also have no way of knowing if the education discount will stack with the down payment matching without asking (though I'm guessing it won't). I'm worried that if I mention them ahead of time they are going to make up the $3k in the price of the car, but if I don't mention it ahead of time if they agree to an offer like 28 or 29 could they refuse to match the 3k at that point?

Lastly one small aside to the question. They don't have what I'm looking for actually in stock (they actually had it listed on their website getting my hopes up but the color was put up wrong on the website) but they mentioned they could get it for me (I'm assuming from another dealership). Is this going to cost them money and in turn mean they'll be less negotiable as to the price of the car (IE if they pay $500 to have it shipped to them will the lowest price they'll take be $500 more than it would've been if they didn't have to have the car shipped)?

Thanks in advance fellas.

There is always a catch to any special. I recommend that you

Study the prices
Find the car that you want
Make your best offer

thats just like say "Buy now and get 3,000 cash back" !!!! WOW!!!!

like david said do some research dont wait for the "unreal deals" cuz there right....they are un (not) real. The only real deal ive heard of is the 0% financing (if you have great credit) on top of the little promotional $x cash back

Did you find the car that you want? Did you make a offer?

If they have to have the car shipped from another dealer, yes, they will want to pass that cost along to you. It's like $500-$600. If it's a used car, they should pay it since they'll be making more money off the vehicle than if it was new.

As for the deal they are offering...ignore it. Right now, figure out the very most you'd pay for a Z w/ the trim/options you want. If you can't get the Z for that price or less, be OK with not coming home with the car.

Then when you go in, see what their offer is (it will be much higher than your #). They will repeatedly try to see what payments you can do but don't tell them. Just keep asking what the final price OTD will be. Repeat over and over. Eventually let them know your "best" offer and say that that is the exact figure you want to see at the bottom of the paper. If they can't/won't do it, walk.

I got up to leave TWICE before my dealer caved in. The 2nd time was because they finally agreed to our "best" offer but then wanted to stick us with the registration fees (~$250) which we wouldn't do.

P.S. Bring a spouse with you who doesn't want the car. You can't beat a negotiator like that!

If you don't mind, what dealer is this? I am in the process of getting a new Z and this sounds like a good offer. Good luck.

I doubt your going to get an 06 enthusiast for 28k-29k OTD. If you can, more power to you. But, I would be looking more towards 30k.
