i am contemplating not trading in the car... need a beater to go to air port and pick up people and grocery getter...

I don't know how Nissan's works for sure, but most dealers get audited when they sell under these programs, because they get a kick back from the automaker to sell it at that price. If everything's fine, then they get the money, if not, then it may be withheld.
point being, if your buying under Nissan's buying program, that's the price. It's not usually negotiable and is predetermined from the manufacturer.
Now, could you do better yourself and not use that program? Depends on where it ends up when the fees of the program are included. If you can't, then buy it under the program if this is the vehicle you want and you decide to buy a car.
