Dont want to get screwed by dealer!
All right, ive got my check in hand from Captiol One auto financing. The Z im looking at is an '05 Super Black base model (6MT) with 25k miles on it. List 'special' price is $25550. I know base 06/07 models are going to be in the 28-29k range OTD.
I'm wanting to pay 'cash' using my Captiol One check i got in the mail, so what would be a good offering price, need some opinions. I drove it yesterday, its a sweet ride, really clean on the inside & outside.
I was ready to sign the p/work and drive away in this Z but...
I dont wanna get screwed by this dealer, his in house financing wasnt good at all, $563 over 60mths , my credits not the best but I can def afford the paymts..however I didnt want to spend over $500 a mth for a base Z...I was wanting to be in the $400 - $430 a mth for my Z. So Ive got this check and was wanting to go the 'pay cash' route. So what would be a good price on this base '05 SB Z, how much could I knock him down. Dealer also mentioned a doc fee, wtf is this doc fee all about?
it seems whenever I negotiate with these sales guys they 'discount' the car, then add sales tax and doc fee, and its above the 'sale' price again.
how can I get OTD with some $$$ knocked off and no sales tax
any help would be appreciated
cheers
Gav.

If your paying cash, you should try to get an 06 base for around 26K. It's the end of the year. The 05 should be much cheaper.
Make your offer, then walk out if they don't accept. You need to control the situation. I know some people who bought base at the end of last quarter for around 26 OTD.

I took a bit different approach. I only negotiated in terms of out the door price. So I would tell them I want it for this much taxes and fees included. When I was done I paid 100 bucks over what nada said the car was worth, it was a pretty good deal there was no fees in my deal.

To tell you the truth, I would give them an opportunity to beat Cap One's rate. I had a customer come in with a Cap One check and I bet their rate by 1% through Cap One.
If you give them a chance you might save yourself a little bit of money. Be up front with them and give them your information. But tell them you don't want to go over the price you've got in your head.
Work the difference and work payments and rate with the F&I person.
We're not all crooks.

I still have to pass my state exam tho.
