Default You guys are really making me change my mind on a 06 350Z!!

Long story short I just moved to NC from TN. House is for sale in TN. Will be making a very nice profit off of the house. Own a 3000GT which I will be trading in on a new car. Have a friend that works for Nissan which can get me employee discount on a Nissan. So after doing some research I figure why not just buy a new 06 350Z at the end of the year.

But then I found this forum!! (Which I think is a great tool) I started reading about the huge oil consumption problem that these 06 350Zs are having. Burning more than 1qt of oil every 1K miles. Having to get warranty work done and then still not having the problem fixed. Having a horrible time getting help from Nissan.

So I thought I had my mind made up on the 350Z. Even though it’s going to be a step down in HP compared to my FWD-TT 3000GT. But now I am in a stand still. I want a car that drives great and has good HP but still has the reliability of a daily driver. Need something that has a good warranty and good customer service when needed. But again after reading all of these threads about the oil consumption and terrible customer service I am confused!! So do I really have a reason to be?

If the 06 350Z seem to have a lot of problems are there any year that is the best? 03, 04, or the 05 years? I know that there is not one car that is perfect and that their will always be someone complaining about it. I just want to find a fun to drive reliable car that is worth the money.

Really just looking for some advice. I like the look of the 350Z and like the power it has (eventho I wish it had more) I just want to make the right decision when buying my new car. Any help? Do I have a reason why I should not buy a 350Z?

the problem is with any forum your only gonna hear about the bad stuff. I bet only 1-5 percent if of Z owners expierence these problem's if that many. Some people jsut get bad apples and that gets highlighted more than the good things IMO.

Hit the nail right on the head. I would say that out of that "1-5 percent" half of their Z problems are due to driver error.

customer service quality depends on the dealership. so it depends where u get it and the experience of the technician.

the 350z doesnt burn oil THAT much compare to some other higher end cars... and if u are not willing to take care of ur 350z... then dont get it... simple as that.

if u dont wanna treat a 350z like a 350z... go get something at a bmw, benz, or lexus then if u want a reliable ****.

no1 can answer what do YOU want. but i can simplify ur choice for you.

1/ u like the 350z look? u like 2doors? if u wanna have the Z pride then go for it.

2/ if u are going to treat a 350z just like ANY other regular car... then dont get it.

from reading ur post, it seems like u just want a fun+reliable car... doesnt necessarily has to be a 350z... then ok... if i was you then... i wouldnt get 350z. just go for a s2k, z4, civic si, rx8, lexus si350 then. all of which are fun+reliable.

i am an owner of an 06 touring roadster for 36.5k... i could have went with evo,sti,cobra,bmwz4,si350, used corvette, ... and blah blah blah in the price range... i chose nissan 350z because i love it... and i will treat it for whatever it needs.

BMW's more reliable? RX8 more reliable? I would hardly say an S2000 is a better daily driver than the Z.

no1 said bmw and rx8 is "MORE" reliable than a 350z...

main point is... u dont wanna treat a 350z, a 350z?... there are other alternatives.

FWD 300GT isn't fast. It's super heavy and only has 300hp stock.

Reading forums alerts you to certain things to look for, but also can make you think every car has issues. If you go to any forum, you'll read about a lot of problems.

Most of those are with people who have problems with a dealer and not the car.

350Z is reliable, just as reliable as any other car.

I think just like the other people; that the squeaky oil gets the wheel. FYI, I haven't had any problems out of mine.

Im assuming that since your the owner of a 3000gt and are on a Z forum beacuse you're looking, you're familiar with the 3000gt forums as well. They have the same type of info. or more neg. feedback than positive. Its just more common to talk and focus more on the negative. The fact is that EVERY car is different, no matter the year or trim. Yes, some things may be more common during certain periods, but that could be due to alot of different things. But not all of them do it.

i always thought the non-turbo models were FWD and the VR4 was AWD... maybe i was wrong...

Either way.. the Z is a great car... like any car they will have their problems..

I drove an 02 WRX for 56,000 miles (yeah the one with the GLASS Transmisison) that would break if you put 1 more HP on it or ever took her to rev limit..

I got 325hp out of that motor and tranny and didnt break a thing.. i didnt drive it like an idiot or launch it though either.. Let me also rephrase idiot..

I didnt mean that.. i didnt drive it AS HARD as i could... BECAUSE i knew what could come from it.. IE: broken tranny..

Take the advice and warnings you get from the forums.. but Nissan isnt going to produce a car that is going to brake every 5,000 miles and be a huge head ache for you!

100% agree with Beer Goggles, I'm one of those that's had more than my fair share of problems with my particular zed, but it's only parts and parts are replaceable and under warranty. Get some feedback from other customers at your chosen dealership, keep your ears open when you are at the dealership, service department (workshop) is probably the best place to flap jumbo ears to find out how well that dealer looks after their customers. Even see what others around here think or use the search button to find out what the consensus is.

Ultimately the zed is a fun drive! Now you've found the forum, there are lots of people around to help answer questions.

Good luck with your quest for zed ownership.
