Default How much can I talk the dealer down on this Z?

So this Z is in the KBB for just over 18k, its in NADA for just over 17k. I don't have much experience buying cars...

They want 20k for this Z:
http://www.vehix.com/inventory/usedC...7700000065C1C3

I think that is a little high for it, so what do you guys think this car should go for? I ran a carfax on it, no accidents - and I guess it is a base model because it says Coupe:

2003 NISSAN 350Z
JN1AZ34D63T105771
COUPE
3.5L V6 SFI DOHC 24V / REAR WHEEL DRIVE

Thanks!
Mike

You really need to figure out which trim it is. "coupe" does not mean it's a base model.
If you looked up pricing for the base model and it is actually a base, KBB is a decent price.

Keep in mind it is an auto. Auto's are less popular and will take longer to sell. I would start the offer way under KBB and see where it goes from there.

I would make a pretty low offer since it's auto

There is no Base with automatic transmission. If you feel comfortable with $18,000, then offer $18,000.

That price is WAY too high. I'm on a market for an 03 Z right now and given that milage, it's too much for that car. Reasonable price for it would be 17K-18K, I think. Trim does matter but not that much. Track versions seem to hold significantly bigger value than other. I doubt that is a track model. I don't see the nice Brembos between the spokes. I can't tell from the ad if it's cloth or leather. One of the shots of the trunk seem to suggest it's cloth which lowers the value even more.

Don't get ripped off. Start low. If you meet half way, you'll still be happy and get what you want. I'd pay 17K for that car, given it's in very good condition.

Also, did you run carfax on it? I've been seeing a few that have lots of bagage and the ad says nothing of that sort. I've seen one that looked great but after running carfax, the car had 6 owners in 2 years and had an accident on record. Hot potato. Probably not a good candidate.

you can do much better on that price. i got my 03 for 21K but it was performance mondel with 18s, stock spoiler, 6 speed and 28K miles last march. the car was flawless. so for an enthusiest or base model , whichever it is, with 60K miles id offer 15K, theyll probably come back and say 19K then offer 17K taxes title tags included and if they say no, walk away. thell either run after you to make a deal or you can go find a better deal elsewhere trust me

I bought the car for $18k. It's not an auto, the ad is wrong. It's a 6 speed enthusiast. So, I think I got a fair deal?

Thanks all,
Mike

18k? with over 60k miles, Im not sure. I wouldn't have paid over 15k. Did you check all the service records?

not too bad a price if that was what you wanted. That would have been about top money for me though on that car.

You did fine. Edmunds lists True Market Value for a 2003 Enthusiast in Red (you get extra points for that!) as Dealer Retail, $18,507, and Certified Used at $18,165. That's with no options. Did you get the side airbags? If so, that's worth more.

So at $18,000 you did a little better than that. Of course how much you *really* pay depends on whether you paid cash (if so, congrats!) or if you financed it, in which case of course it will cost you more.

Anyway, sounds like you did fine, you got a good car in a great color, and you got a fair price. Now just have fun driving! (But not too much fun....just had to say that in light of the number of young guys getting either bad tickets or worse, bad accidents.)
