one dealer eliminated. just cannot believe he wouldnt take $24,000???

If its OTD pricing you should get everything you need and the price will not go up a penny.
First off, if you came to me I'd blow you off, you're really annoying, that means you wont get the best price.
Get a loan ahead of time, find the car YOU WANT, no matter if its more or less, just make sure its what you want. Find out what the car is worth, who cares what the dealer is listing it for. Once you know that, go into the dealership and tell them, I want to buy a car today, I'm looking at a few cars today, I have cash in hand and if you can get me the price I'm looking for, I WILL buy your car today. If the sales guy gives you any crap about no specials or the prices are set or not much room to go, tell him you want to see the manager. Again, tell the manager (if it comes to that) you have money in hand and if they're willing to sell you a car, you're willing to buy it today.
If trade in for your car is 7K and the sticker on the Z is 32K I would offer them 24K OTD 1000 under sticker + tags and tax should easily be doable.
If they say no sorry we can't meet that price, DONT BULL **** THEM and try to haggle, just say, Thank you for your time shake their hands and walk out.
done
you wont waste their time, and they wont waste your time.
everyones happy.

$34,500 San Marino Blue with Frost Leather interior. just got the best offer yet from the dealer in Evansville.
they want my SUV and $23,750. thats $750 better than the best deal i have so far. salesman is checking with his sales manager to make sure that this deal is good, and then going to call me back.
the 350Z is in Chicago, and if i let him know when they open in the morning they can send a guy up to get it. he wouldnt return till around midnight, then they can have their mechanics give it the once over early wednesday morning and have it ready for me by noon.
sound like a plan? i am almost afraid to spend $475 a month for 60 months......

this royally pisses me off.......
they were absolutely adamant about giving me the best deal, and told me $1,000 better than the best deal i had. i told them $24,500 was the best deal, and that $23,500 would, obviously, be the $1,000 off.
then the salesman tells me they are wholesaling my SUV, and their wholesaler isnt wanting to give much for it, and they werent sure they could go $23,500. so he asks if i would take the deal at $24,000. i told him i'd split the difference and go $23,750. he said he felt that would work, but he'd have to check with the sales manager.
that was about 11:00 this morning. he said he'd call me back and let me know, then get a credit card number for the downpayment, and then they could arrange for their guy to drive to Chicago tomorrow (tuesday) and bring it back so i could pick it up wednesday.
he never called me back, so about 5:00 tonight, before when i thought he might be going home, i called him. he said they are STILL TRYING TO WORK A DEAL FOR ME!!
i told him we had a deal at $23,750, and he said he wasnt sure they could do that, and wanted to know if i'd go $24,250!!! i told him not a chance! he wanted to know if i got the $1,000 better deal offer in writing? i told him to let me know what they figure out, and hung up.

Dealer just called me back, said he wasnt saying i was fibbing about $1,000 off the best offer, but there wasnt nothing in writing.
he wanted to know what it took to do the deal. i told him again according to their sales manager it should be $23,500. but i caved in and would go to $23,750.
he then wanted to know if i would go $24,250, and again, i told him not a chance. so he wanted to know if i would go $24,000. i told him i would have to think about that.
so i asked him what dealer fees, if any, he was going to charge me, and he said $199 documentation fee. i asked him if he was kidding??? the other two dealers were only $69 and $99, and then he wanted to know if i would split the difference at $23,875 since their dealer fees were higher?
i told him i thought we were just wasting our time, the $199 was way too high, and we might as well say goodbye. he then asked if i would definitely take it at $23,875?
i told him i'd have to think about this, and get back to him. like i said earlier, they have royally ticked me off.......

i have two friends here at the naval base i work that dabble into cars, buying and selling. see one they like, buy it, drive it for 6 months, sell it, etc, that type of thing. both of them tell me that, for some reason or other, car dealers just dont want to budge. even with a recession looming and high gas prices, the dealers just dont seem to care if they sell a car or not.
they both also told me that telling the dealers their price is too high, you already have a better offer, making an offer close to what they want, etc, etc, just doesnt seem to do any good.

Whitey, call the dealership and say "This is the price I WILL but the car for today, xx,xxx.xx. If you can do that then we have a deal." This is obvisouly the car you want color and option wise, so just tell the dealership how much you want to pay for the car, and how much you will sell your SUV for, and your terms on financing based on your credit (you do know where you stand on that right?). 5 minutes on the phone tops, and you either have a new car, or you can try somewhere else.

WE AGREED ON A PRICE!!! THE SALESMAN AND I TALKED, I TOLD HIM HERE'S MY OFFER, TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT. HE WENT TO THE MANAGER, AND HE GOT THE OKAY TO PROCEED!
so, he then tells me he has to call and check to be sure the car is there, and when he talked to the dealer in Chicago he was informed that that 350Z was...............damaged!!!
all of this hassle for nothing...

there is a 2007 San Marino Blue with Frost Interior for $36,280 sitting out there. i told them i'd give them $23,000, and they wanted $23,750. so, we finally agreed on $23,500.
i have to let them know first thing in the morning. that gives their driver enough time to drive to the other dealer, get it back to their dealer, have them prep it, and have me sign and pick it up tomorrow night before the month end deadline and the $2,000 dealer rebate possibly expires.
so, should i pull the trigger on this one? one buddy says considering depreciation, thats a fair deal at the best. another one says if i keep it three years or longer i am getting a real good deal.
my uncle, who is a retired car salesman, says if i am wanting that color with the frost interior, there probably isnt too many new ones (2007 or 2008) that are still out there that have the San Marino Blue/Frost combination. so he thinks i better bite if i want to get what i want.
