There's a 2JZ s2k for sale on s2ki....

350z for daily drivability

s2k for the weekends and twisties. How many other FR cars have a REAR weight bias?

A friend had that happen to him earlier this year. The roof got cut, and the seats were stolen.

Insurance gave him over $9000.

Many a s2k has been totalled because the top was slashed and the seats stolen.

Or you can do like me and buy a NISMO. Then you will have handling as well!

These were two choices too. I did two weeks long research through s2ki forum and 350z forums. I ended up going for Z because of torque and the look. Oh yea, did I mention that 350Z was the #1 for chick digging car for under 30G? s2k wasn't even in there. As for the handling wise, simply upgrade your suspension set up and you're good to go. Seriously torque wins the race, HP sells the market!

What is it for? Daily driving or more track?

I've owned both. When it comes down to the 2, the main questions is what do you need the car for? The 350z is good for daily driving and minimal track. The s2k is mainly for track use, not daily driver friendly. Atleast for me.

Ah makes sense. Maybe because the roof + seats = 9K.
Thank god I didn't get an S2K. However, I still think a White on White hard top S2K is pure sex.

Only thing I like about S2000 is it's Gearbox ... I heard it was touched by god. Other than that, it's a civic from 1k to 5900 RPM and a beast from 6K to 9K ... if that's what you want , go for it...It has 160 ft/lb of torque.... I like my all-around-all-the-time touque/HP in my Z...

there are just as many on S2KI . . .

As far as this debate is concerned though, I own an S2000 right now but I'm trying to get into a 350z. I need something a bit bigger and want something with more overall tq for daily driving.

I'm starting law school in two weeks so I won't have time in the next 3 years for track days, auto-crossing, etc. So owning the S at this time doesn't make much sense to me.

Find a way to kill two coil packs until 5k RPM so you can feel at home again.

As I own both I think I can help you. First and foremost when I bought my s2k I was looking for a weekend only fun car. Test drove the Z and the s2k back to back and the s2k was clearly the winner (ap1). This past 4th of July I just picked up a 03 touring for a daily so I can give you all the pros and con's from my opinion anyway.

While the Z is sexy in its own right it's a pig. Its got some weight to it as well as it's really round looking. The s2k in my opinion looks a lot sleeker and meaner as well as it is more toss able. As for handling my S even when it was stock would hand my Z's *** around turns like nothing. Def more fun going around turns in the s2k at 9rpms then the Z. The Z gets too squirrelly in my opinion when gunning it around turns. Now the Z def gets plusses for the torque. It's got plenty of that and makes it the best daily driver out of the two. With the S2k it hates being in traffic and at low rpms. Likes to buck a little if you don't use a little finesse.

Interior quality the stock interior in the s2k hands down. The Z has more plastic than my neon has which really surprised me. Even my girlfriend and friends noticed. Although now my s2k has black suede with red stitching interior pieces which I will be doing the same in the Z. Just instead of red it will be tangerine to match the leather seats. Reliability and quality goes to the s2k simple because it's a Honda as well as I have never had one ounce of problems with it in my almost 3 years of ownership. Minus a course a window regulator but that was a TSB. The Z's especially the 03 - up to the 06's have not really had suck a great track record. The most important part of a sports car, again in my opinion, is the shifter. The s2k is the most enjoyable and smoothest gearbox I have ever had the pleasure of using in my life. It's a joy every time I take the car out on a nice weekend or road trip. The Z how every is very clunky too me (and yes I have drove other Z's) and plus we know how reliable Nissan is with the Tranny in these things.

All in all if you are in need of a daily driver the Z def wins in my opinion hence why I bought one. If you are on the other hand looking for a fun weekend car then the s2k wins hands down. I am certainly glad I went with the s2000 first before the Z due to the fact of all the fun I have had with it. Plus everyone is always talking to me and asking what kind of car my s2k is.

All in all they are both wonderful machines that have their pros and cons. It just comes down to what you are looking to get out of the vehicle. If you get a Z get rid of the heavy *** OEM rims. I got a sweet deal on 18inch SSR GT2's and couldn't be happier with the looks as well as the 18lbs per rims. Later.

Mike
