Thats my previous Boxster which I sold to my Uncle and I bought the Z.

Boxster.. I loved the boxster, don't get me wrong. It handles amazingly well, better than the Z does Period. Mid engine is better than a front engine car in everyway, and you can tell when you go from one to the other. Anybody who argues with this has not driven a well balanced mid engine car. My Z has full suspension with sway bars etc.. and still isn't as confidence inspiring around corners as my Boxster was. The sound of the boxster is amazing to, I had an EVOM intake an the roar it made was just music to my ears. The interior was also amazing, where the Z interior is a bit lack luster and kinda klunky and really plasticy as well.

The boxster isn't fast enough however, even the S with 250hp is weak sauce. My Z would walk all over the Boxster so easily. And with a few mods the Z can make 320hp the engines are very tunable and respond so well to upgrades, Boxster? Not so much. If you are lucky you might get another 10hp from it with a chip, intake exhaust etc etc... The only way to go fast is a 3.6L swap which is huge dollars.

The one reason I went to a 350Z from the Porsche was the price to fix the car, much as you are experiencing. The Engine? $1500-2000 bux for a good wrecker motor. Look at this listing from a member here: https://my350z.com/forum/engine/3850...-block-fs.html

A tranny? 1000-1500 bux, and they are fairly easy to change, you can do it in your garage if you're man enough. Otherwise, having a shop take out a normal rear wheel drive tranny is pretty simple and cheap.

I don't really compare the 350Z to the boxster to be honest because in most areas, the boxster doesn't stand up. Its slower, doesn't look as nice, not as much of a focused performance car etc.. I would compare it more to the Cayman, though I have smoked quite a few of those with my car to the surprise of their owners. Really its like a 996 C2 if you wanted to pick a Porsche on a level playing field. I race my buddys 996 with headers, exhaust chip etc. and he's pretty well as fast as I am. After the race I laugh and talk about it, he wonders if his tranny will take another WOT shift tomorrow and if he just "spent" $8000 on a new one or not.

The Z, is fast, bullet proof and highly predictable. Its very much an over steer car vs. a neutral feeling car like the boxster is. It sounds like an angry race car when you stomp on it, its just retarded, I love it. The interior is simple and useful and has LOTS of room. No cramped interior like the boxster had. I'm 6.0 and I have room to put the seat back farther and can lean back a lot more. The BOSE stereo in Z is great and puts the Boxster to shame. With an aftermarket headunit the Z stereo simply Rocks. It has a 10" subwoofer stock which does the trick nicely. Finally some bass, the Boxster never had ANY bass at all. The Z doesn't have the trunk room the boxster had with the front and rear trunk but you can still get everything you need in it. Yes two sets of Golf clubs fit in the back, I do it all the time.

Need an oil change? No longer 9L of 0W-30 which you can never find anywhere and a $50 oil filter. Its now 5L of 5W-30 and a $12 oil filter, thank GOD!

The Braking in the Z (I have a 13" rotor upgrade) isn't as strong as the Boxster. If I had to do it again, I would get a car with the Brembo Package on it. Look for that, trust me, or put out the dollars for a real BBK with a caliper (mine is 13" rotor and a new caliper bracket to move the caliper out for the larger rotor, works well, but no BBK)

Need some parts for the Z? No problem, you can get anything mechanically or cosmetically for less than half what it would cost for the Boxster. An exhaust can be had for 500-1000 bux, not $1800 for a Dansk muffler, $600 for some sport cats, and $800 for headers like you are used to.

Working on the engine? No more lifting the convertible top and laying under the thing that goes up to hide it all. Its in the front where it should be so it's easy to work on and has lots of room.

Turbo or Supercharger? Sure, many used kits for $4000-5000, and new from $5000-8000 and are fairly straight forward to install. You get 380-400whp from a bolt on kit. On the Boxster? $8000 for a turbo kit, $3000 to install it and 320whp, whooptie do.

Should I go on? PM me if you want me to answer some specific Z vs. Boxster questions that you have if I didn't answer them all already. Good luck and have fun leaving the Porsche guys in your dust in your Japanese crap can.

[EDIT] I think I remember your car from either Renntech or Porsche Pete or 986Forum, I remember the stripes on it... I got kicked off 986Forum for arguing with guys over strut tower bars and how much they HELPED the car lol...

Tuning is the key. When you just slap parts on a car that doesn't mean they will work well. Like NISMO and Autech tuned the NISMO to handle, reason why it is much better than just the regular 350z.

I think this was the video I have linked where I went to a PCA Porsche event, and this Porsche owner wouldn't let me pass, and I was on street tires and all of them were on slicks with unsure what other mods.

The guy was about to get black flagged. The guy came to me afterwards and asked me what I had, and I said it was stock, just needed to get better tires over the stock ones at that time, and he was like you don't need better tires. lol.

Porches are overated. Think again if you really think they handle better. THEY feel better, but doesn't mean they handle better.

or this one..

My 07 now has 42K miles, and the only issue I have had is the slave cylinder, which was replaced after a recall, the clutch itself is still original. This car has been excellent, reliability wise.

Oh yeah, the front tires still wear on the inside, due to the Z's camber. Not a big issue though.

I owned an 04, and the 07+ is a bit quieter, and more forgiving, but still handles every bit as well as the 04 did. The 07+ HR motor is much stronger, and my car has trapped at over 107 in the 1/4 mile, while the miles were lower. They get stronger with miles, so I still expect to see a stock HR run a 12.9, and trap over 108.

I'm sure you would enjoy an 08 Z, but like others have posted, you might want to wait for the 09 370Z, which will be even lighter and make more power.

Here is my 07 at work.

Boxster does not inspire envy. They are actually pretty blah looking and its pretty sad - but the truth - that $50,000 car is considered a "poor man's 911"

Raw acceleration of Z, cheapness of parts, Beauty, reliability, uniqueness, sound > A well handling track car with a dated look.

and did I mention $20,000 more for a Boxster.

Thanks a ton...I've gotten deleted on PPBB but not kicked off and everyone over there is upset over my IMS failure.

Just today PCNA agreed to a new motor with me paying for R&R and a partial tear down of the old motor..they found scored pistons, bent valves and much metal in sump...so repairing became non-cost effective. The car was well out of warranty at 64K miles, but I bought this one '04 new and 2 others '99 and '02. the '02 also had a IMS issue but under warranty.

It will cost me about 3500-4000, so not bad...could have been 14,000.

STILL, I will make the switch...I'm sold.

Pix of my motor....

+1000000 agreed. Any Z either 90-96 300ZXTT or 03-08 350Z is 1000 times better then a boxter in Speed,Handling, and Reliability. The boxter is the poor mans Porsche made with cheap parts. Why do you think the OP went through 3 engines. If I was the OP he better get his flame suit on cause thats a stupid comment to make. The Z has been around a lot longer than the boxter, and as far as the new Cayman which is a Boxter with a hard top. The 07+HR Z does a lot better.

You should think about a solstice gxp (turbo). Very good handling car and can be pretty quick with 1,000 dollars in upgrades. 1,000 dollars in upgrades on the solstice gxp= 350rwhp and about 360rwtq and 12's in the 1/4 all on the stock turbo.

Here is a pic of my solsitce gxp:

when it was stock:

after it was modded:

tune + changed turbo wheel compressor!!!!! You have to love a turbo car from the factory. new wheel compressor $850.00 and tune is $200.00.

I have a z also. The z could beat the solstice stock to stock. A 1,000 dollars in uprgrades to the solstice makes it a whole new car and the z doesn't have a chance. Even the 07-08's are a pretty good easy win for the solstice. It will get some track numbers hopefully sometime soon.
