Default Going from a WRX to a 350z

Hey guys, I am new to this forum and am looking for some advice as to going from a 2006 WRX to a 2006-2007 350z. I currently have a 2006 WRX Limited with small mods, ie: COBB Cold Air Intake, and COBB Stage 2 Access Port upgrade. I like the car a lot and cause its quick and nimble, but I am ageing out of the car. My lease is up in August 2009 and I want to get a head start on finding the right 350z for me.

I have narrowed it down to the Touring or Grand Touring packages so far, but I am unable to find any in my area to test drive and and really get a feel for. I also have never owned a Nissan Z before but I know they have a good reputation and are well built. I am looking for some advise from you guys that really know your stuff about the Z's as to what to watch out for and what to look for in a Z. I would appreciate any all sound advice that can help me get into the right 350z.

I would like to keep the cost moderate as I have many other expensive hobbies and I don't want to be car poor.

Thanks
CD

its kind of an impractical sidegrade imo. you are going from one fast car to another, going from AWD to RWD, and when you say age out of it.. do you mean it feels like a younger persons car?

my IT co worker (he's 34) is looking at getting a G35.. he really likes my Z, and he said it suits me perfect (I'm 23..), but says he would feel out of place in it slightly.

something to think about, in case you feel you are "ageing out of your car" again after a couple of years..

Get a 2007, absolutely. Pretty much no issues to worry about.

By ageing out I mean I feel a little old to be driving it around and getting challenged to race from 20 somethings in their riced out Honda's and Eclipse's. I love the car don't get me wrong, but I am looking to get into something a little more distinguished and my budget can't afford a Porsche right now. That is what drew me to the 350z, as it is supposed to perform similar to a Porsche, but half the cost.

An old school 930 is my ultimate goal, but I am looking for something in the mean time.

you will still get that in your Z.. it depends on the area really.

if you want to be left alone but still want the performance, I would get a G35, M3 etc.. they are more luxory but still have plenty of get up and go.

From what I have gathered the 2007 is the way to go, I will keep looking, but they are hard to find in my area. I would love to drive one just to make sure its what i want. Is there any issues that i should look for, and is there any item that i shoudl pay close attention when looking at one???

someone else will be able to give you a better run down but I believe it goes something like this:

2003: tire feathering (most should be repaired by now)
2004: ??
2005: ??
2006: oil consumption
2007: $$$
2008: ??

mines an 04 with no issues, I believe 04-05s are fine too, but they dont have the newer features or the slightly better engine set up

There was a recall on some 2007 clutch slave cylinders:

No other problems I've heard of.

11 months gives you plenty of time to read everything ever written about the 350Z.

That's exactly why i am starting now. I am the kind of guy that will research a purchase to the last "T". Thanks everyone for your help, I will continuously look for a 350Z, and on these forums until I find my car.

07 take it from me.

Although if you plan on going FI, go 06.

Other than that...Orange is sexy, VQ35HR Purrs and the hood buldge brings the ladies back...

jk but its cool. WRX's and STi's are pretty sweet, I hang out with a few kids around here who are in a rex club, but let me tell you...AWD drift/fishtailing is just plain fun.

ok let me comment because i just did this swap. i had an 05 wrx stock except for a couple mods. trust me your stage 2 06 is much faster than this car just to throw that out there.
i love the car and its fun but its a completely different machine compared to a wrx. and i would get a grand touring if you can. its worth the extra cash. and test drive one if you can i mean its a great car but it is a different machine as ive said.

The "T" Stands for I research stuff like this down to the last "T".....or whatever.

Yeah WRX is fast alright and I hate to get rid of it, but I can always get another one if i want too. I just want to get something with a little more prestige and elegance, like the 350z. Don't get me wrong, if i won the lottery this week I would be in the Porsche dealership on Monday. This will fit for now, or until something better comes along.

ok then, the z is a great car if your not worried about power. its smooth the shifting is better than the rex i can say that. plus its a nice handling car too. and it sounds great for stock

it sounds like your just taking a sidestep like everyone is saying.. i suggest you aim higher than the 350z, most likely you would modd the Z.. which then you'd be challenged by random cars.... which brings you back from where you started from and trying to avoid. (hell i just got rev'd up by a eclipse turbo tonight)

i say GO LUXURY! VIP style or something.. it looks great.. powerful engines.. bling..

suggestions: BMW I/3/7/M series (which ever you can afford), M35/45, etc.. which are around the same or a bit higher price range

Worried about power????? I think the Z out powers the WRX any day, and I do plan on putting some power mods into the Z. I am not too worried about taking a side step, I realize that I will get noticed by the riceheads no matter what, but I find the 350Z to be more Luxury than the WRX, and more distinguished. I really could care less about punks that want to race at stop lights, but I am looking for something that will be a true sports car in style and drive. I would like to go with something more luxurious, but I also have to be realistic, I don't want to be car poor.
