Default Best Advice For Paying At Or Below MSRP

I am considering getting a Z around December. I would get the Touring with all options minus Nav and Splash Guards. Can anyone offer me some advice on ways to not pay over MSRP?
Any suggestions would be great!!

If you live in NC and dont mind driving, you might want to consider Eastern Carolina Nissan in New Bern. I got mine for about 2k under MSRP, and thats before they even got to the US. Finding a good dealer is the trick. If you try ordering from places like Raleigh, they will charge MSRP.

Yes, but also make sure they understand that you do intend to buy one, at MSRP, if they have what you want in stock, that very day. If you go for the "short version", some dealers (depending on their traffic volume and the salesman and the sales manager, etc.) might just say, "Thanks for dropping by," and wish you well as well.

buy through one of the online car purchasing companies. Generally you can get it much cheaper through them.

Internet sales work well as someone already mentioned. We got our WRX at Fleet invoice last year via the online sales department. Typically the online sales group is different from the floor sales group at a dealership and they can work different deals.

For the Z.. the one we got happened to be the one in the paper... 2k under MSRP.

Shop around.. have a figure you are willing to spend and be a hard *** about it. If you know what MSRP is, calculate what you want your monthly payments to be and how much you are going to put down (if you are doing a loan) and don't budge from that figure.

Or, if you are buying the car outright you can do what my dad did when he bought a new car for my mom a few years back.

He walked into the dealership (Subaru), and said "I want this Impreza Outback for my wife. I have a figure in my head. Go talk to your sales officer and find out what you can get me the car for, if its within 500 of my figure, I'll write you a check and be out of here with the car in an hour."

The sales officer came in 300 bucks UNDER the figure my dad had, hahah..

Shop around, call multiple dealers until you find one willing to sell for msrp, then when you find one, keep calling around saying "hey, this guy is willing to sell for msrp, can you beat it?"

It's also a good thing to know what the actual cost to the dealer is for your particular car. That way he can't BS you on the price

Try www.carsdirect.com, they now have 2004 and Roadster and are showing savings of $1,000 plus on both for my ZIP, yours may be different.

Do like I did and email all the local dealerships asking for a competitive price (let them know you're shopping the mega stores). Once they shoot you a price, visit the top three. Each will work their @ss off to undercut the other. I ended up getting mine about 2-3K under MSRP If I were you, I would shop now and take advantage of the closeout 2003s . . . might save a bit more.
