Default damaged Z still worth it?

first off, let me say hello to everyone on my350z!

I'm in the market for a 350z, after I sell my car I'll have roughly 15k to play with but I might have found a small investment to bump that up some...

a friend of mine is selling his 2003 350z for 2,000$
but there are a few catches:
-110,000 miles
-minor hail damage in multiple spots
-the rear section of the driver side window was smashed in (stole his laptop)
-the front bumper was recently been backed into (scuffed paint and indention)

SO... with that being said, should I buy this car and try to sell it for more?

any and all help is appreciated

Welcome to the forum!

Question... if your friend's offering you a deal, why would you then turn around and flip it?

I'd buy the car and just replace the parts that need to be replaced. That's what I did with my Z, and I sure wish I got it for $2k!

Do your math. Take pictures of the car. Take it to a reliable body shop. Get a quote estimate...

If you want to flip it? sure ... go ahead. But while doing that much body work, you can either go with a more aggressive look, and get it painted / repaired with the rest of the car.

It might turn very well to be your next car.

And if you decide to sell it, keep it up for sale for a reasonable price even if you get very little bites. You can enjoy the car while its up for sale, and if you sell it, look at that, then you will have about double what you had before.

Don't buy the car without a solid plan. Think it through thoroughly.

if that car gets the ok from a nissan dealership or mechanic you trust, that it is mechanically sound. no engine troubles and what not. i would definately get it for the 2k.
salvage yard to replace the broken glass or get a new one if you prefer
new aerosync front bumper or other if you prefer.
little body work and full spray over (only suggested cause i dunno where or how bad the hail damage is) and i think it would be good deal.
maybe spend 9k total for the car plus the work to get it up to par would be less if you don't have to spray the whole car, just color match new bumper and panels that need to be done, wet sand and clear over the entire thing.
and if things really get out of hand you can go forced induction with the extra $ you got there.
If you want to sell it for more...
IMO, nothing wrong with flipping a car no matter who gives you a deal.

for 2 grand?
um.. all day long.

Do a compression leak down test and get a body shop quote... thers a reason your buddy is selling a 35k new car for 2k.

But if its even close to reasonable condition... good lord.. yes. a
ctually, if you dont, I WILL.. give him my name etc.

also assuming the damage was only to the front bumper. if the headlights are damaged then its a bit more money, also depending on the type of headlights.

Get it checked out by a mechanic and go from there. If everything checks out, 2k is a steal.

very sound advice, I was considering a quicker route however... buying the car for 2,000 and then selling it as a 'wrecked' or 'repairable' for 3,500-4,000 or possibly more...

now if I sell my current car, I might go that route

Its more of 'a friend of a friend' kinda thing...other than playing some ultimate frisbee once I don't really know the guy.

overall I'm just looking to make a quick buck to help me get a newer, lower mileage Z...hopefully an 07

Gotcha, didn't realize you were going for a newer model.

Go for it then, heck, I'd be tempted to buy it for a parts car for mine...

Unless the driver was doing mach 12 when he back into the z, buy it. If u fixed everything and replaced the motor (if need be) then sold it, ud still come out on top. If i had the opportunity id say **** yeah.

Heres what you do. Buy it part out the engine, buy a HR engine, two turbos, redo the whole body, paint it San Marino Blue and give it to me. lol

sounds like a cake walk compared to mine:
https://my350z.com/forum/new-owners/...-new-350z.html

Just like the others have said, find what its worth in your area for that high of mileage, then get a couple quotes for fixing the damage. Seems like you should come out on top.
