I think there are two parts to judging the pricing of this car.
1.) The performance category (how does it stack up compared to others in its class)?
In this case, I would say the car is most likely underpriced. This would be considering the base model, which is on par with all other trims in terms of general performance figures. Considering the competition, the car should cost maybe $10 to $20 K more.
2.) The conspicuous consumption factor.
Since this car is not a product that is considered to be a necessary item that everyone needs to own in order to live in our society, there is a degree of materialism involved, which has an accepted cost associated with it. You pay more for certain name brands over others. This is a Nissan product, and is priced accordingly. If it had a Porsche symbol on it, the price would be reflective of what Porsches typically sell for, and so on. In other words, the price is correct for a Nissan product (you wouldn't pay $60,000 because they don't make vehicles typically in the price/quality category). Nissan does, however, produce a number of vehicles in the $20-$30K range. Part of the reason for the decline of the Z32 was it was overpriced for the name. Why pay $30-$40K for a Nissan, when you could get a "higher quality" vehicle for the same price or slightly more. It was unfortunate for the Z32 to suffer such trendy economics considering how great the vehicle was. Those who bought them were buying into quality rather than just into a name (in my opinion).

I believe the car is slightly underpriced however... It's well below the cost of the Z32TT, however, it could use a raise in price to about 30 thousand for base models and 36 for the touring/track... They then could've used that money for a slightly better tuned engine, a nicer interior (less spartan...maybe leather on the doors), and a better paint job.

I am planning on buying the new Z probably the base model. What sort of a price range should I be looking at does anyone have insight on this. I know what the MSRP is but I am curious what people actually paid for the thing and what kind of premiums they paid.
As far as the price of the Z I personally think its just right. You want a nicer interior buy the G35 S. The Z is still a nissan.

I chose sthe Z was priced about right, and was debating between that and the slightly over-priced option. The base model is a great deal, but when you look ata fully loaded one, that's about 37-38k that's getting up there. The reason why I was debating, though, was because of all of the problems I have been hearing about. In the end, I chose that it's priced about right because those hopefully will be attributed to first year bugs and struggling to bring the car out as fast as possible. Time will tell on that one.

Yeah for 38 K I would rather go to a vett even if its a 1 yr old. Sorry but a v8 is a v8.
However I am still curious to hear if I can pick up a basic 350Z close to MSRB or am I paying 6 k over?

yeah V8 is the king of displacment, but be aware of what comes with that, tho the vette is better about it than other muscle cars.
as for what you will pay, I paid MSRP, didnt preorder, and got the car saterday. walked in to look around, drove out in a Z. its possible, just have to know where to look.

I am in NC, but ordered my Z from Smithtown Nissan in NY. Shipping is somewhere around $300 - $400. Ordered from Dan Z (bluefish). If you do a search on bluefish, you will find a recent post from him cause he is now the #1 Z salesperson in the US. HAs sold to a bunch of folks on this and other forums.

I wanted to get the s2000 but I didn't want to go over 30k especially since this will be my first real car out of college.
I waited 2 yrs driving a piece of **** I figure I can treat myself a tad.

I walked in yesterday and drove out with a touring at msrp
i think the enthusiast model at around $30k is great deal...the touring and track at 34K is getting to a resistance point for a nissan. once it starts costing "only" a few thousand below vettes and bmw's it's going to lose its market imho.

Although, I don't have a Z yet, I'll throw in my 2 cents...
The base option seems like a good deal.
However, Nissan is making their profit$ with the Markup on the other models like track, touring and performance.
Those seem overpriced for the options you're getting. Too bad I want a performance, or track. At 37k I'd rather get a used Vette.
